On stewardship: Christian stewardship will be the theme of the first Diocesan Stewardship Day in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Cardinal Keeler Center, 4800 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg. The day begins with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Kevin Rhoades. Thomas J. Sonni will deliver the keynote address, “Changing Our Hearts; Changing Our World.” Following lunch a team of presenters from St. Peter Parish in Elizabethtown, including David Able, Thomas Fertal and the Rev. David Danneker, will present “A Stewardship Story.” A variety of workshops will be offered. New pastor, part 1: Living Faith Church of God has called Wayne W. Boyer as its new pastor. He has a master of divinity degree from Bethel Theological Seminary and his doctorate from Winebrenner Theological Seminary. He has pastored churches in Minnesota, Illinois, and Ohio and pastored Central Manor Church near Washington Boro from 1991-94. Before coming to Living Faith, he served as executive director of the Churches of God, General Conference in Findlay, Ohio, for 13 years. He is married with three grown children and six grandchildren.
Living Faith Church meets at 10 a.m. Sundays in Lancaster Mennonite School on Lincoln Highway East. The church offices are at 2184 Old Philadelphia Pike.
New pastor, part 2: Grace Church at Willow Valley has hired the Rev. Al Reilly as associate pastor of mission and administration. He will oversee the church’s staff and ministry teams to ensure that they are “staying on mission.” Reilly spent the past 11 years at Millington Baptist Church in New Jersey as associate pastor of Christian education and administration. He is also a senior instructor with Walk Thru the Bible Ministries. A graduate of Temple University and Biblical Theological Seminary, he is working on his doctor of ministry degree through Dallas Theological Seminary. He and his wife Linda have been married for 31 years and have four adult children.
Anniversary concert: At 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, an organ concert by Dr. Daryl Hollinger, minister of music, will continue the celebration of the 100th anniversary of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, on the corner of College and Buchanan avenues. The public is invited. A reception will follow in Kunkel Hall. Hollinger will play works from around the world. A number of the selections are his own creations from the publication “From Every Corner” by Augsburg Fortress.
Pass the popcorn: Hosanna Christian Fellowship, Lititz, will wrap up “Hosanna at the Movies,” a three-week series that explores spiritual questions through the lens of popular movies, during the 9 and 11 a.m. services on Sunday, Oct. 7. Following the service, guests are invited to attend a free outdoor family carnival and pig roast. Senior Pastors Jo Ann Kunz and Tony Blair will present the series, which focuses on stories of finding forgiveness, freedom, and love. Popcorn and other light refreshments will be provided. Pioneering: Hosanna also will launch Pioneer Clubs, for kids age 5 through fifth grade, on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The clubs meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. weekly. Guy stuff: Men are invited to join Men’s Fraternity of Central Pennsylvania at Lancaster County Bible Church. Two tracks, “The Quest for Authentic Manhood” and “Winning at Work & Home,” will be led by Keith Walker. Both tracks are 24 weeks long, focusing on a man’s core identity and key relationships. Sessions include refreshments, multimedia learning and breakout discussions. Year 1 – The Quest For Authentic Manhood will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. Thursdays through March 20.
