U.S. Rep. Joe Pitts’ office released the following statement this morning on President Barack Obama’s call for passage of sweeping health-care legislation Wednesday night:
“I don’t really know whether this speech is going to change things for the President. He continues to support a deeply unpopular government-run public option and, while he paid lip service to tort reform, it remains to be seen whether the plans in the House or Senate will seek to rein in the outrageous costs of lawsuits and defensive medicine. We need real bipartisan reform and I think we could get it if President Obama would really listen to the solutions being offered by Republicans. While he says he has an open door, he hasn’t met with House Republican leaders since April. Buying off two or three Republican votes isn’t true bipartisanship. In August, people across the country voiced their opposition to government-run healthcare, it doesn’t sound like the President was listening.”
Eighty-three percent of Americans favor and only 14 percent oppose “creating a new public health insurance plan that anyone can purchase” according to EBRI, a conservative business research organization. This flatly contradicts conservatives’ loudest attack against President Obama’s plan to provide quality, affordable health care for all.
(CBS) A clear majority of Americans -- 72 percent -- support a government-sponsored health care plan to compete with private insurers, a new CBS News/New York Times poll finds. Most also think the government would do a better job than private industry at keeping down costs and believe that the government should guarantee health care for all Americans.
Readers should definitely check out these claims, because on the face of it they are almost completely unbelievable.

Great-A health care program that you can purchase. I'm already short on funds and am self employed. I can't afford insurance now. What makes anyone believe that I will be able to afford it after this goes through. Has anyone seen pricing on this insurance yet? I'm just curious. I haven't been keeping up with this issue so I may appear naive-sorry.

The decision as to whether or not you can afford it will be determined by the government. ALL individuals will be REQUIRED to purchase basic health care.

On another note, Rep. Joe Wilson's shouted accusation, "liar", during Obama's speech last night. Apparently it was in response to Obama's claim that illegal aliens would not covered under his plan. At first I thought it was in reaction to Obama's other claim, that the "Death Panels" of some "prominent politicians" was a lie, read Sarah Palin is a liar. On that basis, while both may be guilty of bad manners, Obama deserved what he got, and once again sabotaged himself with divisive rhetoric. While it may be skillful politics to leverage blue-dog Democrats by making Republicans the scapegoats, a more experienced politician with perhaps a thicker skin would have done so more gently, with less overkill, realizing that changes of this scope should not be made in such a polarized environment. His speech, I think, made that worse.

I don't know. I would love the opportunity to acquire health insurance but I'm not sure If I would like someone MAKING me purchase it with no say in the matter at all. Isn't that communism? So, let me get this right. A woman has the right to choice if she has a child or terminates that childs life but I have no choice in healthcare, right? Am I missing something here?

The republicans are the very ones who polarized the environment, no make that they polluted it.Now they crybaby because the mean Obama stood up to them? The repubs look like morons. The bozo from South Carolina defines the wingers to the repulsion of most Americans. He could not have been stupider.
Are you using this word as a dumb dig or did you really mean stupider? I believe that it's more stupid, lol.

According to one of the liberal Fox commentators, Amy somethingorother, Business will be required to either provide health insurance for their employees or pay a fine, which is said to be 8 %, (of payroll ? ) However business health insurance costs are more than that 8 %. So what do we think business will do ? Obama - "If you like your current insurance plan you can keep it. There is nothing in my reform that will prevent you from keeping your current coverage."
