The Lancaster County Democratic Committee will honor city Mayor Rick Gray with the Janice Stork and Russ Hay “Good Government Award” during a ceremony in Akron on Wednesday. “The award is being presented to Mayor Gray for excellence in public service and his commitment to good government during his first term as Mayor of Lancaster City,” says party.
Supporters of President Barack Obama’s proposed public health care option will hold a rally on the steps of the old courthouse on East King Street Wednesday night. The “We can’t afford to wait: Public Option NOW!” vigil is timed just days before members of Congress return to Washington, “to make sure they know that an overwhelming majority of voters are counting on them to act quickly to pass health care reform,” according to organizer Mimi Shapiro. “Our vigil will put a human face on the urgent need for bold health care reform with a real public health insurance option.” You can sign up for the We Can’t Afford to Wait Vigil at: http://pol.moveon.org/event/publicoptionnow/98306. The event begins at 7 p.m.- U.S. Reps. Joe Sestak, a Democrat, and Pat Toomey, a Republican, will appear at a town hall-style meeting on health care at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday. Hmm. Who’s missing from that list?
