Arlen Specter goes on Howard Stern. Apparently Stern is a “long-time admirer” of the Republican U.S. senator, according to Politico’s Glenn Thrush. The talk-show host said he’s going to send a check and help get him re-elected, and that his audience votes in a block so “they’ll all help him out,” according to this listener.
The Hill has the exchange:
Specter: I’m raising money. I’ve got to raise $30 million for my campaign. And I have to raise it in small sums.
Stern: I’ll send you some dough. If you’re looking for, you know – you want me to write a check or what?
Specter: Uh, yeah. “Citizens for Arlen Specter.” Howard, I have to get 50,000 contributors. It is awful but it is necessary.
Stern: I need a friend in the Senate. I mean, I love that you come and do the show. I’m sending a check. That’s what I’m doing. I’m going to do my part. I’ll get you reelected. What the hell am I going to do?
Specter: Okay. Now what do you have to say to your listeners?
Stern: I’m telling them to do the same. Listen, we all do the same thing. We vote in a bloc.
