Snarlin’ Arlen in an op-ed in this morning’s Washington Post:

“In politics,” John Kennedy used to say, “nobody gets everything, nobody gets nothing and everybody gets something.” My colleagues and I have tried to balance the concerns of both left and right with the need to act quickly for the sake of our country. The moderates’ compromise, which faces a cloture vote today, is the only bill with a reasonable chance of passage in the Senate.

He's right in the fact that the moderate's bill has the best chance. Unfortunately, it may not end up being the best bill. I think the addition of the AMT fix was unnecessary and some of the cuts that went along with that addition should have stayed in (particularly the funding to state and local governments for the purpose of saving jobs there).
