It’s a tough year for Republicans. Ask Chet Beiler, the Republican nominee for state auditor general. He is trailing Democratic incumbent Jack Wagner by nearly $400,000 in the amount of cash he has to spend in the month until the Nov. 4 election, according to the Web site PolitickerPA.com. Beiler’s most recent campaign finance report is still not available on the Department of State Web site, but PolitickerPA reports today that Beiler, a Manheim-area businessman and former Lancaster County GOP chairman, has raised $194,299 since May, less than half what Wagner raised. The figure does not include the $100,000 Beiler raised at a Sunday fundraiser featuring Tom Ridge, but Wagner’s overall significant cash advantage — he has three times Beiler’s war chest — “raises doubts whether Beiler will raise enough money for a statewide election,” PolitickerPA.com reported.
