So, how well did she do?

Your thoughts?
I thought the most effective part of her speech was this:
Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown.
And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves.
I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a “community organizer,” except that you have actual responsibilities. I might add that in small towns, we don’t quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren’t listening.
We tend to prefer candidates who don’t talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco.
As for my running mate, you can be certain that wherever he goes, and whoever is listening, John McCain is the same man. I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment.

Sarah will be a fine vice president. |
Concerned Citzn 9/4/08 7:42 AM | I agree, I have to admit that I was a little "on the fence" about her, but last night she nailed it. I thought she was well spoken, respectful, direct and humorous, as you said.

Libs are walking around in circles, totally frustrated and confused about Palin's success and what it means to the McCain campaign. Before Palin spoke, Romney, Huck and Rudy cleaned BHO's and Biden's clocks. It was a great warm up act for the top billed Palin. The convention hall was in a frenzy. Watching Olbermann try to get his act together was pretty funny.
They don't know how to react, the more they try to bash Palin, the more damage they do to their cause. They just can not stand the fact that the republicans have a women on the ticket.
Just read Gil's latest blog entry while he was watching the speech. The backlash will only help McCain win. Watch the desperation in the Obama campaign in the coming days.
When do Bill and Hill get out and campaign for Obama with "all their hearts"? Maybe after Obama pays off Hillary's 11 million debt. Fat chance! |
grieker 9/4/08 8:08 AM | I've heard her speak before and this was her star moment. I was very pleased with the way things went. Only question remaining is can "The Old Man" hold his own in his speech? |

Aside from the mis-information and incorrect information, she certainly delivered her speech equally as well as Obama. Unfortunately for her, and the rest of the country if she/McCain get elected, the ability to deliver a public speech has nothing to do with one's ability to govern a country intelligently. I also felt her "dig" on Obama regarding his lack of leadership experience could be equally applied to McCain. The connection is so obvious I thought it was a mistake for her to bring it up.
One thing I noted was the amount of negativity the exuded from the speech. She stopped several times to allow the crowd to boo ad-naseum. It sounded very much like a drunken frat party. The only speech I listened to from the Demo convention was Obama's, and I don't recall such negative reactions from the crowd. Perhaps some of the other speakers I missed elicited a similar response though.

4coffee 9/4/08 9:13 AM | I thought her speech seemed off at times. Like she had to different ways about it. Then I heard on the news this morning that she did indeed have two differenent writers for her speech. Now it makes sense. I also felt there were too many jabs at Obama. I don't care which party it is, spending too much time jabbing at others just seems like a waste of time to me. I want to hear the issues. I want to hear WHY I should lend my support. |
Amber 9/4/08 9:24 AM | She is a terrific speaker, no doubt about that. Just like Obama is, which is something he is constantly criticized for. The real issue is - we don't know much about her, yet she is being grasped as the savior to the Republican party. That may change once people get to really know what she represents. The following article sort of says it all. http://blogs.wsj.com/politicalperceptions/...-conservatives/

Hey...I thought you were ignoring me
The thing about leadership is that you either have it or you don't. Those that have it always have it, and are natural born leaders. Those that don't might gain leadership abilities through experience, but generally those folks never turn out to be great leaders (include myself in that category). My feeling is that Obama is a natural leader and has great potential. I don't see that with McCain. He is someone who has latched onto the political gravy train most of his entire life, and has never shown any indication that he has leadership potential, or a high level of intelligence for that matter. Many of the most successful business leaders, ceos military leaders, etc. can barely speak in public. But, they are nonetheless great leaders. The ability to deliver a speach or act has nothing to do with leadership in and of itself. Since none of the candidates are proven leaders in this election, I'm going with potential.

podunk 9/4/08 10:38 AM | Does voting 'present' instead of 'yes' or 'no' 1 of every 31 times represent a strong leader to you? |

BeingReal 9/4/08 1:54 PM | sometimes you might want to mind your own business. When have you seen it spelled hurray? Never! I simply pointed out that there was indeed a word spelled "hurray." How did I know this? I've read it spelled that way before. If you're going to snark at someone over something so trivial, you might just want to double-check your facts first. I'll do a query when I see a new word or one I've not seen spelled that way. It's just a bit of advice.
Now go back to hissing and spitting at someone else 'cause I didn't mean to pee on your Wheaties. |
