The major-party candidates in the 16th Congressional District race filed quarterly campaign finance reports this week. They cover fundraising and spending from April through June. Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Pitts, who is seeking his seventh two-year term in the House, raised $143,247 in the last three months, spent $59,492 and has $292,323 on hand. Bruce Slater, the Democrat in the race, raised $18,478 in the last three months, spent $18,349 and has $9,493 on hand.
More than two-thirds of Pitts’ money — $95,900 from April through June — came from political committees such as PACs. Less than a third of Pitts’ money, or $46,526.50, came from individuals. Of the $454,622 Pitts has raised so far, 68 percent or $310,954 came from PACs, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. About 30 percent or $136,851 came from individuals. By comparison, nearly 96 percent — or all but $800 — of Slater’s money came from individuals over the last three months. Of the $49,338 he has raised so far, about 87 percent or $42,770 has come from individuals. A report for independent John A. Murphy was not available.
