LSO chamber music series

March 2nd, 2009 · No Comments

My review, from the March 2 Lancaster New Era …
Classical musicians, like many other musicians, like to get out from under the umbrella of larger groups and take the spotlight in smaller ensembles.
The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra’s new chamber music series put violinist Igor Yuzefovich, the orchestra’s concertmaster, pianist Michael Sheppard and cellist Dariusz Skoraczewski in […]

It all adds up to a music-filled weekend

January 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

Four saxophones, new music: the PRISM Quartet will perform at Franklin & Marshall College 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24. Since there’s not a lot of music out there for a quartet of saxes, the group has gotten quite a few noted U.S. composers to write new works, including William Bolcom and Steven Mackey.
Two pianos, two […]

‘Sounds of the Season’ and a new chamber music series

December 19th, 2008 · No Comments

The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra’s ‘Sounds of the Season’ concert is reviewed here. A tip of the Santa hat to concertmaster Igor Yuzefovich and the rest of the musicians, who turned in a warm and spirited performance. A few orchestra members actually wore Santa hats for the second half of the concert, and one double-bassist put the hat on her […]

Double reeds star at Allegro concert

July 14th, 2008 · No Comments

Just for the record, there weren’t “Too Many Oboes” at Saturday night’s Allegro concert at F&M’s Barshinger Center — when they’re played this well, you can never have enough. The four oboists — section leader Jeffrey O’Donnell, Emery DeWitt, Jill Marchione and Megan Norcross — played in various configurations, exhibiting, to steal a phrase from […]

Sweet summer airs from Allegro

May 1st, 2008 · No Comments

One look at the program titles for Allegro: The Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster should tell you this is not classical business as usual. The ensemble opens its seventh season Saturday, June 14 with “WHO??” featuring less-than-familiar works by (mostly) less-than-familiar composers, according to Brian Norcross, Allegro’s music director. Two of J.S. Bach’s sons are represented: Carl Philip […]
