Glass premiere in Harrisburg

That’s right, Glass as in Philip Glass. Violinist Maria Bachmann, performing with Jon Klibonoff, piano, will be performing a new work, Duo No. 1 for Violin & Piano, Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, part of the Market Square Concert series. The work was commissioned for the 70th birthday of Market Square Concerts founding director Lucy Miller Murray. Bachmann will also be performing two of the works she performed last summer in Mount Gretna (with pianist Natalie Zhu), Brahms’ third sonata and George Enescu’s third sonata. Also on the program is Ravel’s Sonata in G Major. (Information source: Dick Strawser’s Market Square Concerts blog.)

Her Mount Gretna performance was a highlight of the summer, conveying all shades of romanticism from Brahmsian richness to Enescu’s bright, rhythmic, folk-inflected idiom to John Corigliano’s tragic neo-romantic Chaconne from “The Red Violin.”
