The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra’s ‘Sounds of the Season’ concert is reviewed here. A tip of the Santa hat to concertmaster Igor Yuzefovich and the rest of the musicians, who turned in a warm and spirited performance. A few orchestra members actually wore Santa hats for the second half of the concert, and one double-bassist put the hat on her instrument.

Looking ahead to next year, Yuzefovich, with music director Stephen Gunzenhauser, is starting a new chamber music series at Franklin & Marshall College. The first concert is Sunday, March 1 at the Roschel Performing Arts Center. Performers will be the Monument Piano Trio — violinist Yuzefovich, pianist Michael Sheppard and cellist Dariusz Skoraczewski, and the program will include Haydn’s Piano Trio in G Major, “Gypsy Rondo;” Brahms’ Piano Trio in C Major, Op. 87; Shostakovich’s Trio No. 2 in E Minor and Astor Piazzolla’s ”Primavera Porteña” from “Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas.”

The second concert is Sunday, March 22 at Roschel and will feature violinist Hagai Shaham, LSO associate concertmaster Netanel Draiblate, LSO principal cellist Kirsten Walsh, pianist Michael Sheppard and violist Andrea Priester-Houde. On the program will be selections from Béla Bartók’s 44 Duos for two violins; Ernst Bloch’s “Nigun” from the Suite from “Baal-Shem: Three Pictures of Hassidic Life;” Jeno Hubay’s “Scènes de la Csárda” and Brahms’ Quintet in F Minor for Piano and Strings, Op. 34.

For the third concert, Sunday, May 17, at the Barshinger Center, the Monument Trio will return with members of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra for Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, Op. 44 and Tchaikovsky’s ”Souvenir de Florence” Sextet in D Minor, Op. 70.
