first-friday.jpgThere are some new sites joining the First Friday festivities. Jonathan Bancroft Colon, now of Pittsburgh and formerly of the Bancroft Collective in Lancaster, will be showing furniture and art in “Mistletoe,” a show at American Male, 14 N. Queen Street. Reception will be Friday 5-9 p.m. (generally, First Friday hours) and will run until Jan. 3. Don’t be shy, stop by, even if you’re not male (or American). Cassi Heitmann will be showing two year’s worth of paintings at the Heitmann Atelier & Gallery, 104 W. Chestnut St., second floor. Kathleen Abel will open her studio at 309 E. Chestnut St. for “The Planets,” shallow-relief paper sculptures inspired by Gustav Holst’s orchestral suite of the same name. If you missed her show at the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra concerts in November, here’s a second chance to catch up. Subversive and crafty works by Abigail Burnette-Peake will be on display at the Sambalin Studio, 447 N. Mulberry St. Also, abstract artist Joel Ember will have a show of paintings, “stim-Xtinction,” at Checkers Bistro, 300 W. James St.

Another relatively new gallery to check out is Queue Studio, 218 N. Duke St., which opened in October. It’ll be featuring handmade ornaments and affordable art; participating artists include Rachel Chambers, David Stallings, Ann Kimmich, DSM, Becky Haws, Arvin Alson, Eric Tonzola, Andrea Weaver, Eric Spohn, Stephanie Lapp, Milton Ritter, Rose Principe, AJ Nutter, Tim Auchuff and Frasier Ziffer.

Building Character will be opening its new artMARKET at 342 N. Queen St. This expansion will provide 3,000 square feet of space for “art, music and assembling.” The grand opening will be 6-9 p.m. Friday and feature music by Faux Minx and art by B.B. Bellezza, Natureflections, Fabu Mama, Big Black Kitty, Shirleyʼs Attic, RE:Purpose, etc., Anthony Patschorke Canes, The Bag Lady, The Salvage Artist, Frost Imaging, The Faux Minx, WXPN, The Brunner-Burkhart Group, Timothy Brinton Rill, Scott Groff, Ned Shovlin, Hawa Lassanah, Avery Bayard, R.J. Fox and more.
