Arts office in Philadelphia

On Friday, July 18, Mayor Michael Nutter signed into being the Office of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, and named Gary Steuer chief cultural officer. The Office of Arts and Culture had been closed in 2004; the addition of the words “creative economy” to the title says a lot about the shift in the perception of the role of the arts in the community.
