Will Pierce’s large, dramatic oil paintings were among the most striking works on view at this spring’s Scholastic Art Awards show, and, for July’s First Friday, more of his works were on display at
MasterPlan Design, 44 West King St. Pierce, whose stepfather is in the medical field, takes as his subject close-up views of wounds, stitches and scars, magnified, but not microscopically; the location on the body is evident. His self-portrait is shown in the photo above; also shown is “Patient,” now visible in the MasterPlan’s front window (shown here when it was on display at the Dreams Collide gallery in June.) His small, delicate watercolor landscapes, also on display, were a surprising contrast.
Recycling is the theme of this month’s Art in the Alley show, and one of the exhibitors is Michelle Pruitt, who transforms and updates old clothes and outdated styles into fresh looks. Here, she wears one of her creations while standing next to another. Art in the Alley is located at rear of 323 N. Queen St. in the Keppel Building. Hours are Thursday-Friday, 4-7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
