Continuing a long tradition of summer performances, the Next Generation Festival returns to Millersville University next week. Pianist and festival Artistic Director Awadagin Pratt, violinists Ben Breen and Tai Murray, violist Susan Gulkis Assadi and cellist Thomas Kraines will perform Friday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Lyte Auditorium. The concert is free but tickets are required, by calling (717) 872-3811.
New this year: the concert caps a week of chamber music camp with the Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra, which is conducted by retired MU faculty member Peter Brye. The chamber music camp musicians will hold a final concert Saturday, June 21 at 1:30 p.m. in Lyte Auditorium. The concert is free and tickets are not required.
“Collaboration with the Reading Symphony Orchestra is representative of our mission with the arts – to ensure that everything we do in the arts has an educational component,” said Dr. John Short, dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Millersville, in a press release.
This weekend is looking pretty busy on the classical music front. The Pennsylvania Academy of Music’s Vivace! festival kicks off this weekend, and Allegro: The Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster starts its summer season Saturday.
