This weekend is all about needles and thread, fiber and craft. In addition to the Quilter’s Heritage Celebration at the Host, which began today and runs through Sunday, fiber artist Debi Hartranft will be at the Living Light Gallery on 150 N. Prince St. Saturday for the opening of a show of her works. (There will be lots of other things going on during Artist Saturday; check for details here, here and here.) And if you haven’t made it downtown to see “Rags to Rugs: Pennsylvania Hooked and Handsewn Rugs” at the Lancaster Quilt and Textile Museum, it’s an impressive show in all respects, in a greatly expanded exhibition area.

What’s a Pecha Kucha? This beautifully simple idea is basically a timed “slide” presentation — all you need is a laptop, a projector and your images. The presenter shows 20 images, 20 seconds per image — this keeps things moving rapidly and allows more people to take part. The Creative House of Lancaster put on an abridged (10 images per presentation) Pecha Kucha night last Thursday. Five people had presentations and each one had its own angle. From fine art to architecture to poster design, the presentations were unique, personal, entertaining and informative. Missed the Pecha Kucha? Gotcha! The CHL is planning more Pecha Kucha nights April 17 and May 15; check here for details.
