There’s a new group for playwrights getting started in the midstate area. The Playwrights Alliance of Pennsylvania will hold its first open meeting 1 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Caffeine Connection, 512 N. 3rd St., Harrisburg. It’s open to experienced and aspiring playwrights, says Marjorie Bicknell, the board of directors’ secretary. The alliance had its origins with a group of playwrights who had been meeting privately with mentor Kevin Pry, associate professor of English at Lebanon Valley College, who is chairman of the new alliance. (Cindy Dlugolecki is vice chairman.) “This is our first step out of our little box,” Bicknell says. Members’ plays will be read and discussed at a monthly roundtable; the group also plans to produce a staged reading of members’ plays, including a program of 10-minute plays in the fall of this year. Other plans include classes, speakers and possibly a theater festival. Anyone with an interest in theater — actors, directors, people who just want to give playwriting a try – is welcome to join the group. Membership dues are $60 for members and $25 for associate members. More information is available at 717-763-1864.
