I obviously disagreed with much of what Mike Huckabee had to say when he was running for president, though at times I found myself wondering why I didn’t dislike him as much as I theoretically should have. These comments today maybe show why I didn’t. Honesty. Pretend you grew up African-American; how would you feel?
“We’ve […]

McCain’s the man

So McCain wins the GOP nomination - no surprise there - Obama wins Vermont (ditto) Hillary’s up in Rhode Island, way up in Ohio and Obama is up in Texas.
Will be interesting to see what Hillary does after tonight, if she loses Texas. My guess is she’ll soldier on, which would be a bad thing […]

Mitt bails

Dropping out, sayeth the AP. The last, best hope of conservatives in this race is now gone, and their nemesis - McCain - now wins by default.
McCain-Huckabee, here we come.
This morning I asked some of my conservative e-mailers who they were going to support if Mitt did in fact bail. Two of them said they’ll probably […]

I’ve written about how I’ve found it difficult to dislike Mike Huckabee as much as I probably should.
He appears to be going out of his way to make it easier:
The United States Constitution never uses the word “God” or makes mention of any religion, drawing its sole authority from “We the People.” However, Republican presidential […]

As I said earlier, I’m having a hard time disliking him as much as I think I should.
This obviously manipulated ad, however, is making things a bit easier.

Hard to hate Huck?

So last night I sat and listened to Mike Huckabee on Larry King. As might be obvious, I want to dislike Huckabee - on the basis, mostly, of who I think he appeals to; people who want religion to have, shall we say, a more definitive and dominant place in American life.

Pretty funny. If you’ve missed it, the institutional right has been panicking about the unmistakable rise of Mike Huckabee, unabashed candidate of the “values voters.” John Cole, former Republican who saw the light, details the backlash here and here, and gets a laugh out of how those (like Rich Lowry at the National Review Online) […]

Hilarious. Romney seems to think his big speech the other day did the trick, defused the idea of his religion as a campaign issue. Huckabee, apparently, isn’t about to let that happen:
Romney, a Mormon, had promised that he would be addressing the subject of his religion a few days later. I asked Huckabee, who describes […]
