With all the yammering about how much health care reform is going to cost, you might think conservatives would be concerned about the ever-escalating cost of war in over on the other side of the globe. But in fact, just the opposite is occuring. The deficit hawks demand greater involvement in these wars; apparently we pay for it all in Monopoly money, it doesn’t really count.
This is a dynamic we’ll get well into after the holiday - this idea that the virtuous Afghanis and Iraqis are somehow more deserving of American largesse than Americans themselves.
