Casey the producer had sent me this bit yesterday, Deadspin’s take on the news that our old pal Rush Limbaugh is aiming to become part-owner of the St. Louis Rams. Best line:
I guess the team won’t be drafting any black quarterbacks from now on.
But St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Bryan Burwell takes a far more serious tack, pointing out that while Limbaugh’s conservative politics would fit right in with most NFL owners, the players - many of whom are black - might not take too kindly to certain things Limbaugh has said in the past, things like…
“Look, let me put it to you this way: The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”
“I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: Slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back. I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.”
“The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”
Can’t wait for Rush’s first visit to the locker room. I’d pay to see that. Twice.
