Hooray, we lost

The takeaway, of course, being that Drudge has spent the past week-plus making the case that Chicago is a uniquely crime-ridden town and that the Olympics absolutely should not come to the U.S. as a result; and he’s rejoicing now that Chicago was bumped in the first round, because a defeat for the USA… is a political setback for Obama.

Tell me again how patriotic these people are?

Quoth DougJ over at Balloon Juice, in a post titled “Bust out the cardigans“:

This presidency is over. How can Iran and Russia and North Korea and all the Hitlers of the world take us seriously now that the Olympic committee has laughed in the president’s face?

The bipartisan thing would be for Obama to resign now.

He had no business going over there. Now he looks foolish. It's hard to believe that no one on team Obama knew Chicago had no chance at all. And no one told Obama.

Of course the money grab by a few corrupt officials in and out of the white house might have influenced him to try the sell job.

I'll bet he learned from this humiliating experience.

So Drudge is wishing for economic develop programs to fail inside the United States of America simply to promote his own political agenda?

Why would Drudge want his fellow Americans to lose out? How can a political agenda ever be more important than people's livelihoods?

With "friends" like Drudge, who needs enemies? The enemy is within.

really, like hoping for something to fail that is "a go". yeah, hoping for failure, especially since some "livelihoods" could have been provided in an economy that has a higher unemployment rate this month.

Conservatives Revel in Country's Olympic Defeat

QUOTE
"Cheers erupt at Weekly Standard world headquarters," wrote editor John McCormack in a post titled "Chicago Loses! Chicago Loses!"

QUOTE
"Chicago and Tokyo eliminated. No Obamalypics," Michelle Malkin tweeted,

QUOTE
"Please, please let me break this news to you. It's so sweet," said Glenn Beck on his radio show.

QUOTE
"Hahahahaha," wrote Red State's Erick Erickson. "So Obama's pimped us to every two bit thug and dictator in the world, made promises to half the Olympic committee, and they did not even kiss him. So much for improving America's standing in the world, Barry O."

QUOTE
"The worst day of Obama's presidency, folks. The ego has landed. The world has rejected Obama," echoed Rush Limbaugh.

"For those of you ... who are upset that I sound gleeful, I am. I don't deny it. I'm happy," Limbaugh said. "Anything that gets in the way of Barack Obama accomplishing his domestic agenda is fine with me."

QUOTE
"ChicagP\/\/n3D!" tweeted Newsmax

Apparently no one read the tweet from former Bush flack Scott Stanzel.

QUOTE
"Note to GOP officials/consultants - resist the temptation to pile on about Chicago losing the Olympic bid just because Obama made the pitch," he wrote, advice reportedly passed on by Former Mitt Romney spokesman Kevin Madden.

I have just one question for these rabid angry Republican zealots,

Seriously, do you hate Obama more than you love your country?

I get the idea that hosting the Olympics was viewed about the same way we did the convention center project.
84% were against it if it meant Chicago had to put up tax money to cover any cost over runs.
So not everybody is disappointed except the usual gang of crooks.

I agree, Chicago didn't have a chance, no matter what Obama said or did. Maybe his team did advice him as such, but the advice went unheeded. Just saying.

The cost of this trip was over one million dollars.

WASHINGTON – OK, so it wasn't health care, climate change or war. Still, President Barack Obama's high-profile failure to win the Olympics for Chicago could feed negative narratives already nipping at his heels — that he's a better talker than closer, more celebrity than statesman."

I'm glad he tried to help out an American city. It's better than dragging your feet to help out one hit by a hurricane and doing it badly. Rio, on the other hand deserves it this time. They do have problems in some famous slums, but it's a very progressive city and the people have a great sense of national pride and enthusiasm. It doesn't hurt that it's a very beautiful place as well.

And that Olympics have never taken place anywhere in S. America before. It was just their year.

I don't get people. I posted this on another thread, but people who are getting all smug over Obama getting "knocked down a peg" are really only harming themselves in the long run. This was a lost opportunity for a city that could use a helping hand. Chicago has a lot to offer. I've never been there, but know a little bit about its history. Great musical history; BASEBALL; set on a beautiful lake; wonderful writers; architecture. Man, what an opportunity lost to showcase Middle America to the world. This wasn't about Obama. He was a bit player in this. This was about bringing a huge sports venue to the US and potentially stimulating the local economy in that area, which could have had further reaching implications.

Enjoy taking your shots, you nattering naybobs of negativism. You got nothing else to bring to the table.

I have to wonder how many Chicago residents are still in love with Rush, Beck et al right now?
