Oldest story in the world

So Chicago - like many American cities - suffers from appalling instances of black-on-black violence, Drudge falls over himself to link it, the insinuation being that hey - Obama is from Chicago, and Chicago wants to host the Olympics and black people are killing each other in Chicago and this is all Obama’s fault! Or something.

This would be Glenn Beck:

Is this capitalism that has done this? Or is this corruption? Corruption of the political system, corruption of the judicial system, corruption of the educational system, corruption of the very soul. Or is this just that we need the Olympics in Chicago, or is this just that we don’t have enough social justice? Or is this that we’re just using all of the Earth’s resources? Or is this that we don’t have cap and trade? Or is this just because they don’t have frickin’ healthcare? Which is it? You tell me. Don’t you see? Our country is sick. And the medicine that they are trying to give us is going to kill the patient.

The real medicine would be to cut taxes. As that’s helped the inner city so much over the course of the past two decades.

No, Mr. Beck, what you have in this nation is a permanent - and thus self-perpetuating - underclass. And if welfare and the war on poverty hasn’t ended poverty and the whole basket of social ills related to it - like violence - then neither has capitalism.

Indeed, capitalism had a century and a half to eradicate poverty before FDR ushered in the era of bigger government. And yet capitalism never did eradicate poverty. I wonder why that was?

This stuff is terrifying - but Beck would have you believe it’s something new. Remember the movie “The Gangs of New York?” Ever hear the real stories of New York’s Five Points Neighborhood?

And that was white people, Glenn.

Ah, but you waste your breath with Beck and his ilk on this. Poverty has always bred  social instability and violence. That is as old as human history itself; Beck would have it all be related to this “sickness” he “feels” in his “gut” to be afflicting his dear country.

Cain killed Abel, Beck. Is that Obama’s fault, too?
