How they define ’socialism’

Helluva pic and letter over at Sullivan’s:

Of course they are screaming ’socialism’. They’ve been doing that since the 50s at least. They’re not talking about economic redistribution of wealth - they never have been. They’ve been talking about redistribution of privilege this whole time. They called MLK a communist because he wanted blacks to have the same rights as whites, and to them that was a redistribution of the privilege that whites had ‘earned’.

“Race mixing is communism.”

“Freedom,” after all, includes the freedom to hate. Doesn’t it?

By the way, this handbill was circulated on the streets of Dallas just days before Kennedy was shot there.

Post your thoughts and comments about this blog post.

Well, I guess you could call that progress. Gays have reached the level of status and attention that the far right is calling them "socialists" too.

The opposite of "socialism" is "survival of the fittest".

Therefore, if you oppose "socialism", then you must support "survival of the fittest".

It was "survival of the fittest" that led Charles Darwin to discover evolution.

...and so....

If you support Darwin you are not Christian.
If you are Christian you therefore must support Socialism.

The second picture (regarding MLK at communist school) was taken at Highlander Folk School in Tennessee. Amazing place that has brought us some big names, besides MLK, and made many improvements for an uncountable amount of people over the past 50+ years.

The Long Haul
is the autobiography about Myles Horton, who started the school. I am reading it right now and it is so inspirational!

I highly recommend it.

Gil not-so-smart is attempting to do the same thing Jimmy Carter did the other week. He could not be more wrong!

He has pulled a few pictures from the past to label people as racist. Does that mean that all of the arguments that point the “progressive” movement equates ALL lefties are anti-Semitic since Stalin killed so many Jews?

Both are equally absurd comparisons.

BTW Darwin & Marx were friends and had similar philosophies & they were both Atheists. So your Christian assertion is also absurd.

I don't think Darwin was completely atheist. His family was Unitarian, he WAS critical of the Bible as history, which there isn't anything wrong with. He stilled believe that God was the ultimate lawgiver.

Yeah, Marx and Darwin were friends.

The point was that a bunch of folks were protesting racial equality as communism. Not that they even understand what communism or socialism is (just like most posters on TB). They just have a "bad guy" they can point to...blacks voting is socialism, women voting is socialism, medicare is socialism, social security is socialism, blah blah blah...and that's what the health care debate is now. It's folks just saying something to be against something.

The second point of the picture is, look how ridiculous those guys are and how backwards they are. We shake our heads at their ignorance...just like what will happen in 50 years when they review the health care debate. The school books will have pictures of the teabaggers and kids will go home and ask their folks, "were people really that backwards at the beginning of the 21st century?"

Darwin and Marx both dealt with evolution. Darwin described evolution in plants and animals. Marx described the evolution of economies. Both are resisted by people who hold onto antiquated notions that have long since outlived their usefulness.

Was that teabagger comment a request?

Then what world leader in history epitomizes the true "Socialist"?

When in History did it work?
