The famous Abbey Road pic was shot, that is. Graced one of the greatest rock albums of all time, in my always-modest opinion - and helped launch the whole Paul-is-dead business.

This is the meat of side 2. Just five years after “A Hard Day’s Night,” by the way. Which makes it all the more amazing.

But is it the best Beatles album? It's in my top 3, but it's not in the #1 spot. Some of Harrison's best work is on that album.

I'd call side 2 of Abbey Road the best single album side the band produced. Not sure side 1 is quite as powerful (She's So Heavy does drag on for a while, then there's Maxwell's Silver Hammer...)

But "best" Beatles album may be dependent on whether you like early Beatles or late. Some of Pepper sounds real dated; lots of filler on White Album amidst some of the band's best work... I might actually vote for A Hard Day's Night as the band's best.

Interesting. If I could have my way, I'd take Rubber Soul and Revolver and combine them into a "Double A" album. Revolver is the one I go back to most frequently.

I have to disagree about side one of Abbey Road if for no other reason than the two outstanding Harrison songs.

I like the early Beatles as well, but I'm more inclined to listen to one of the many compilation albums put out (like the "Red Album") to listen to my favorite oldies. Actually, one of my favorites is "A Taste of Honey" off the Please Please Me album...not even a Beatles tune at all, but great harmonies.
