My favorite thing about the White Folk - like Glenn Beck - who accuse Obama or Sotomayor of racism is the sanctimony, the veiled insinuation that 49 years ago - why, Glenn Beck would have been along for the Freedom Rides, because he’s just so concerned about equality between the races.

Gil Smart One of my least favorite things about commentators like the one above is their sanctimoniousness. Their perception of others is flawless in the same degree the people they comment on are flawed, in their opinion. OF COURSE Gil would have marched with the Freedom Riders. Because of things he has said. Lord knows that may not have been what popular pundits said back then...but then Gil transcends mere pop pundit. In other words, it is easy for him to sit here today and say what he would have done, while casting doubt on others. Wait, that's what pop pundits do. Stooping to question the motivations of others to earn your daily bread? Not very attractive. And I don't even like Glen Beck. |
