Palin’s Facebook posting
July 4th, 2009 8:14 pm · 25 comments
Good grief.
One day after announcing that she’s resigning, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin blasted the media for their coverage of her surprise move and asserted that she’s held to a higher standard by reporters.
Palin, who has not had a public schedule for the July 4th holiday, posted a message on her Facebook page just before 5 O’clock Eastern describing news accounts of her announcement yesterday as “predictable, ironic, and as always, detached from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the ‘politics of personal destruction.’”
“How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it’s about country,” Palin wrote. “And though it’s honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make.”
Sarah, name one other public figure who offered an abrupt, completely-outta-left-field resignation late in the afternoon at the beginning of a long holiday weekend.
“Detached from the lives of ordinary Americans.” Sarah, you’re insinuating here that the great silent majority is on board with your you-betcha, winky ways.
Wrongo.
Yeah - it is about country. It is about you being the continuation of George W. Bush, and the need to keep the country safe from such a thing. Once was enough. And at least he had the good graces not to turn and walk away.

Who decided to keep Gitmo open? Sarah or Obunko?
Who decided to keep troops in Iraq? Sarah or Obunko?
Who sided with dick Cheney on torture and Valery Plame? Sarah or Obunko? |
gsmart 7/4/09 10:29 PM | Nate Silver:
Palin is the most Bushlike of all the Republicans who have emerged as contenders for the national ticket: the smirkiness, the smugness, the regional accent (although Palin's, I assume, is not feigned), the malapropisms, the contempt for media (both the people who cover it and their mediums), the express deference to religious faith, the occasionally undeniably likable moments of joviality and regular guy/gal-ness, the tendency toward self-dealing, the bulldog/barracuda mentality, the comfort in one's own skin (Palin was crippled when she lost hers late in the campaign), the (apparent) preference for isolation in [Wasilla, Crawford], and last but not least, the no-holds-barred, no-apologies conservatism.
The people who like Palin most are the people who liked Bush most. |
Kate 7/4/09 11:12 PM | OMG Gil - you are so full of yourself!!!
Sarah Palin is bringing to light the ridiculousness and over zealousness of the media who relentlessly attack her. Yes, she does bring some of it on by herself however the liberal media used her in an effort to promote Obama and Co.
Did she ask for Letterman to make a national joke regarding her family or herself?
Come on, comparing the Governor of Alaska to a "slutty flight attendant", which in itself is a huge insult to flight attendants, is over the top and inappropriate.
Where is the fairness in making fun of her innocent, youngest child?
The media has gone too far and it's about time someone stood up to them.
She is bold and brave to do what she is doing.
As for rebuilding the GOP - her comments on that are exactly right on. The GOP is so far gone from it's original premise and needs fresh blood to reinvigorate the party.
Sarah Palin is not another George Bush. Period! |

True that, then the Lancaster News Paper might actually be worth something; or at least tell a true story!

doghead 7/5/09 11:21 AM | Victimhood is a terrible thing to waste.
Now she is threatening to sue anyone who says she may be indicted. If she is indicted who will she blame. The woman appears to be seriously nuts. Calling Dr. Freud , calling Dr. Freud.
What kind of dingbat says she is quitting because she isn't a quitter.
As George Will pointed out, she can't even claim to have been a one term governor. Will also was bemused why so much focus is on this woman when there are new and smart faces in the Republican party who are far smarter and far more qualified. The focus is on her because she positions herself to be the focus of attention. And then claims victimhood. Calling Dr. Freud...... |

Too clever by far.
At the end of the day the O-bots are reduced to sexist insults. |
citydweller 7/5/09 11:51 AM | From the AP story:
QUOTE But in a statement posted on Palin's Facebook account, she suggested that she had bigger plans and a national agenda she planned to push after she resigns at the end of the month.
She's going to organize her base into brown-shirt militias and run for fuhrer.
QUOTE I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention
Hmmm....
QUOTE "This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, The New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law."
Yup, there's yer less-gummint fer ya. |

Not an O-bot. First she says how tough she is, then she folds and whines about victimhood in an incoherant psychotic babble-a-thon. The woman is unfit to "lead America". McCain found this out the hard way because he didn't do his homework and misread the mood of the American people. McCain, by picking Palin was landing a far more insidious sexist insult than my cleverly juxtapostitioning of two tawdry politicians and their misadventures. |
Goldilocks 7/5/09 12:59 PM | Now she is threatening to sue anyone who says she may be indicted.
She is threatening to sue those who are making nasty stuff up and stating it as fact. It is called "libel" and it is not ptotected by the First Amendment and it isn't free speech.
By the way Doghead, I am still waiting for the hard evidence (sic) supporting your claim that Foley had sex with young minor boys. |

Listen dear, you obviously did not read the reports or you would know that no one stated as fact that she was going to be indicted. They used words like "perhaps" or "could be". It is not libel, but then Sarah is counting on people like you to not understand the difference, once again portraying herself as a victim, which people like you swallow hook, line, and stinker. As for Mark Foley he was propostioning sex to underaged boys. He is a sexual predator, looking for underaged boys.Maybe you will defend gay men who sends sexual propostitions to young boys but if he was trolling you bet he landed a few.
Maybe you believe that he has the right to be a sexual predator as long as he "doesn't have sex with those boys". |
reese 7/5/09 1:14 PM | "Amendment." Don't lecture us on it if you can't spell it. You should probably look up what the standards for libel are r/t the First Amendment before you get too fired up. |

I don't disagree that Foley is a predator and what he did was very wrong.
I am only asking that you back up your statement with hard evidence...I am no sure if having gay sex and sex with young boys, like the republicans have done is considered adultery.
The fact is you can't because there isn't any. You made that up. The funny thing is, you are accusing Palin of the very stuff you yourself do right here on TB.

I apologize to your highness about my incorrect spelling of "Amendment". And I will look up the standards of libel as they pertain to the First Amendment.

I didn't make it up. Mark Foley solicited gay sex with underaged boys. I doubt that he will admit to having had sex with underaged boys as that would be a crime. I have no doubt that a grown man who spent a lifetime soliciting gay sex from young boys, at some point had sex with a few. I am so glad you are giving a pervert the benefit of the doubt. I'll remember your defense of him the next time the subject comes up. Of course you could have looked for yourself, but have a look at this list: http://digg.com/politics/Another_GOP_Sex_S...e_boy?t=9853268 See any republicans and underaged boys?
As for your charge that I am accusing Palin of the same thing? HUH? |

You make a valid point on your speculations about Foley.
I am through with this. I proved my point that that you stated something as concrete fact, when it was only based on your unsubstantiated speculation.

Whatever. You win. I lose. I gave you a list of republicans who had sex with underaged kids, some of them boys. That substantiates my original statement as fact. And your reaction to Foley will make it difficult for your to persecute gays in future forums.

msdis 7/5/09 5:55 PM | This is my first posting on Smart's blog. He is one of the reasons I have cancelled my subscription of 40 yrs to the Lanc. newspaper. It's the same nonsense and cliche talking points of the elite media that bore us all and doesn't have value to the average middle class person. We can SEE with our own eyes what is happening.
This attacking of Sarah Palin is just what the Republicans need right now. Motivation to bring in a fresh voice and not the "next in line" Mitt. Women will get sick of these white males with their superiority complexes insulting and degrading every woman candidate for office. Meanwhile they can't keep their pants on and do their jobs. Whether it's Hillary or Sarah or Geraldine back in the 80's, it's getting to be infuriating. Who vetted Obama, what are his credentials?
I've been a liberal Democrat voter since the early 70's and it's the same old same old with Smart's opinions. We were saying the same crap in the 60's and 70's and got Carter. Now it's gaffe meister V. Pres. Biden and a bowing, timid, liar of a non leader President.
I will vote for the first woman POTUS and I'm pretty confident it will be Palin. Whether in 2012 or 2016 she WILL win. Every thing goes in cycles, but also the same people who financed GW Bush and Barack Obama will finance her. Her platform will be hope and change from the Obama administration of facism and racism to conservative values and the defeat of misogyny.
The white guys will go after her with both barrels, with as much passion as they ignored Obama's birth cert., grades and financing of his college ed and travel. His book authorship and his association with Rezko. 20,000 people saw her at Auburn, NY a few weeks ago and that was not a campaign speech. She will be free to raise money for the 2010 elections, write a book and give speeches pointing out the catastrophic Dem. administration. She will overcome MSM madness.
And please God, may Hillary get the hell out of this sinking ship of an administration and become Gov. of NY. She's been cut off at the knees by the liar Obama. |
