Taking it seriously

Interesting. NYT piece on Shepherd Smith, the only one at Fox who seems to take the “fair and balanced” business separately, and who gets a lot of abuse for Fox devotees for that very reason:

Mr. Smith said he fully anticipated one result of those comments: the nasty e-mail increased.

“Thousands of them,” Mr. Smith said. “And I know they don’t mean the things they say. I know they don’t hate me and want death on my family.”

What they mostly say, he explained, is: “You don’t belong there.”

Let us put to rest the notion that all Fox viewers want is “fair and balanced” coverage. What they want is right-leaning coverage, to the extent that when someone gives them what they say they want - they complain.
