Saw the story in this morning’s Intell. Just wanted to quick say that there may be more to this story than the DA is letting on. Let’s just say that during my discussions with some of the people who knew him best, in their grief, they told me a few things they obviously didn’t want shared with the public, and so I’m not going to do that. But the mental illness-off the meds business may be only part of the tale.

| BeingReal 6/2/09 10:33 AM | Gil, I'm not sure how to interpret this blog entry...For example, does it imply you think there's intent or not? (I'm asking a rhetorical question here, so don't feel like you need to respond and break confidences.) Here's my take on this situation: It's clearly tragic. We are aware of family members who may be reading the articles and/or your blog. I'm trying to be sensitive to their presence while working to understand both sides of the situation. I don't know what Tonya's state of mind was that day, nor do I know how often incidents like this one may have happened previously, whether or not the mental health/medication aspect is significant enough to have rendered her incompetent on that day, etc. But I do know that we don't know -- and we owe it to someone we respected to try to better understand, to trust that law enforcement and mental health professionals will work to determine what happened and why so justice can (hopefully) be served. I strongly suspect there's a lot more work to be done by LE and the defense and that more information will come out before we reach the point where we should draw conclusions. Hopefully, other people will bear this in mind, too. |

| ceejay 6/2/09 12:50 PM | The Intell article added a piece that we didn't know: the 12 year old son saw what happened. How horrible for that young man! But also, he stated that she hit him across the chest with the baseball bat. There are young kids who died playing Little League baseball when struck in the chest by a pitched ball because it puts their heart out of rhythm. Sounds like that is a real key with Cyber. How very sad. |
