It’s all in how you report it

Interesting. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - owned by Richard Mellon Scaife, conservative billionaire - seems to be the only outlet that isn’t reporting that the Pittsburgh shooter feared the Obama administration was going to try to take his guns.
I wonder why that is.

Conservatives are the protectors of gun rights, but things have gotten a little unsettled now that someone has actually had his gun pried from his cold, dead hands. What was once Chuck Heston's war cry is now sober reality and it probably doesn't sound as good now that three cops died because of it. |

I just think the dude went nuts, and yes, the gun paranoia had something to do with it.
I saw a line on another blog (can't remember which) that said this isn't going to result in a ban on guns, because that that train's already left the station. Liberals are ready to "move on" from gun issues.
I'm thinking mothers across America aren't going to be ready to "move on" if this sh*t continues.
And that's how you DO get a gun ban. Paranoia will destroy ya. |
justplainjoe 4/5/09 4:21 AM | nonsense. despite the weekly mass murders committed by gun nuts there is no evidence that gun nuts commit mass murder. other than the facts. guns don't kill people, americans kill people. and we just make it so easy because we are pro life. and we are not as stupid as we appear to be, right? right? no we are smart. we practically give away guns to nuts and when they use them we recoil in horror? how could they? ummm maybe because we are morons? hellllllooooo!??? even chimps are smarter than most americans.LOL |
skeptic2 4/5/09 7:26 AM | It's hard to understand the paranoia about guns. The Democrats are more powerful than at any time in the past 30, arguably 60, years. Yet at the heart of this is a focus on economic issues domestically and trying to shore up our position in the world in terms of energy independence and debt. Put another way, the mantra of most Dems has been to let the conservatives have their guns so that other things can be accomplished. So there will be much discussion of the three shootings now. I just want to know if strict enforcement of existing gun laws would have prevented any of these recent tragedies. |

Existing gun laws probably weren't violated. When the ban on highly coveted assult weapons was lifted, they few off the shelves. Now those gun owners have more firepower than many police departments. |

This guy and about 300,000,000 other Americans. So how is that news? |

There is no paranoia about guns, but I think the trend will be for more gun laws and restrictions, if a person is interested in owning a targeted type of weapon and ammunition now is the time to buy.
Gil not so Smart is using a false premise, that there is a connection between the gunman’s actions and his political views on guns and gun laws and regulations. Even rubberman couldn’t make that stretch with a straight face. Gil can though??????????

OK, so three innocent police officers died and you expect the paper to bury the story. You are an idiot !

skeptic2 4/5/09 9:34 AM | This is Poplawski's profile from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He was into all those conspiracy theories that show up here all the time. What set him off apparently was that bills like PA's 10th Amendment House Resolution (HR 95) were being ignored by the national media.
He would have fit in well in one of those tea party gatherings.

So his profile will answer all questions about why this individual killed all those people.
Wishful thinking on your part or delusion take your pick.

Skilled professionals (not me) will do exactly that. What I expect is that he had some latent psychiatric disease that worsened recently. It's not an unusual story- what I do know is that you have to be very bad to be admitted anywhere, so there are millions of people with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia running around in the community. Some of them are undiagnosed, some are barely compensated but are mostly managed as outpatients.
I can't say what we should do about it, but at the moment what disgusts me is that individuals like this are manipulated by crazies who try to scare them into thinking that an autocratic state is imminent or that their guns will be taken away. Blame this one on Michael Savage.
Beyond asking for some decency and even a little effort to be truthful, I don't know what we can do. |
