Cult of personality

And so now GOP chairman Michael Steele is the latest conservative sycophant to go running to Rush, begging for forgiveness.

Is it me, or is your Republican Party becoming a one-man show here - a veritable cult of personality, in which Limbaugh indeed calls the shots, and none may cross Limbaugh?

Pretty Stalin-esque.

I know your anger
I know your dreams …

Steele’s problem here is that he realizes that certain diseases have a higher approval rating than Rush, and Rush’s comments in recent weeks only make him seem more extreme to the broad mass of American society - and if the Republican Party is going to peel off any of those votes, as it must, Steele has a vested interest in downplaying Rush’s comments.

But he can’t.

Good good good.

Update: Sullivan:

It’s Rush’s party now. So why shouldn’t he run for president in 2012? Make Palin his veep - and be done with it.

Dear Lord: I don’t ask for much. Do I? But this would be Christmas, a birthday present, Easter and the lottery all rolled into one. I’ll be good - I promise.

Update 2: Via John Cole:

I’ll take 10, and start slapping them on lampposts.

There's a danger with staying too close to Rush. After all, Limbaugh is, essentially, the conservative Howard Stern. He needs to say outrageous things from time to time just to keep his ratings up. If he says something too offensive though, those who stand too close to him are likely to get splashed.

I heard Steele call Limbaugh "hateful" and "divisive". Did he slink off to apologize like a sniveling doghead? If he did that is the end of the GOP until Rush either ODs on oxycoton or a side of beef. Man he is turning into a fat pig.
And his spech where he was on tape scowling about how much he loves people was too bizaarro world to be anything but surrealistic.
Keep it up Rush, the GOP isn't in quite enough disarray. laugh.gif
