Why I don’t (heart) city life, part II
February 6th, 2009 2:10 pm · 1 comment
18-wheeler stuck at the corner of North Prince and West King. Tried to turn from Prince onto King, but too wide, a parked car in the way - and where’s the owner of the car, to move it? No idea.
So of course the semi can’t back up, with Prince St. traffic swarming around its rear. Can’t go forward. Can’t do nothing. And so traffic in the heart of downtown comes to an utter and absolute standstill.

I'll bet you can't wait until all of those people who try to get to a convention practically next door to your office - many of whom will park in YOUR parking garage - generate lots and lots of additional traffic in your neighborhood. And let's not forget the tractor-trailers which will be turning from Prince onto Vine, and from Vine onto Christian - right past your loading docks, where your tractor-trailers intermittently block Vine St. in the evening as they line up to deliver rolls of paper.
I'm sure you are also eagerly looking forward to streetcars making the turn from Prince onto Vine, and Vine onto Queen, once again passing your loading docks.

Just in case you haven't yet figured it out:
Gil, it doesn't make sense for you to criticize traffic, and tell your readers that is a reason why you don't (heart) downtown Lancaster, while you go on and on and on with support for projects and issues that will only make that same traffic so much worse.
I notice that you've also stumbled across one of the side effects of "traffic calming". Just wait until the "bulb-outs" are installed along Queen St. from Vine to Chestnut over the next few months, a part of the "streetscape improvements" which have already begun alongside your loading docks and your press room. |
