The difference between Drudge and reality

Drudge headline - with siren!

IRAN NUKE ‘THIS YEAR’

What the actual story says:

The think tank’s Mark Fitzpatrick made the announcement at today’s launch of its annual global review of military powers.

“During 2009, Iran will probably reach the point at which it has produced the amount of low-enriched uranium needed to make a nuclear bomb,” he said.

But being able to enrich uranium is not the same as having a nuclear weapon.”

But Drudge’s headline said it was! Why would Drudge lie?

OK, SFB, read on....

"However, the survey reports doubts over US Intelligence estimates that Iran halted its work on nuclear weapons six years ago.

This points to Tehran's continued development of long-range ballistic missiles able to reach targets in Israel and beyond."

For those in Lanc City and Gil, 2 + 2 = 4.

You are worthless. Trying to get the Fairness Doctrine in place to hold off Drudge? Drudge's site is an accumulation of headline URLs - not altogether different from your paper, is it? What about the other headline at the top of Drudge's page - you know, the one where your Messiah decided to do his first TV interview on Arab TV, and blames the USA for 'dictating' too much?

Have you had an original thought in the last 10 years? From what I hear, you are as much as a bore in real life as you are here.

Let's hope their first nuke doesn't - or maybe does - go 'pop' right over King Street.

Fair points on how perspective of the reader influences interpretation.

Regardless, the real questions that need to be asked before putting any credence into the findings should be: who is IISS? what other orgs are they "linked" to? what is the author's overall world perspective (sorry, there is no such thing as neutral)? etc, etc. Since these questions cant be answered with certainty, any information from the IISS or such needs to be taken with a tablespoon of salt.

MTWPDad, you should just keep quiet.

You lost any credibility when you revealed your ugly, racist view on a previous thread. And I can see it creeping into your latest comment here.

Ugh. Repulsive.

Not only is your statement not true, personal attacks are inappropriate.

If you want to disagree with Gil, that's your right. But attacking him personally casts doubt on both your information and your intentions.

I wager $8 that MTWPDad is Gil. He does it for a variety of reasons including proof of cleverness; drum up interest; a mental outlet to balance his one-sided talking points, which for career purposes, he can not express; and to live out his inferiority complex about living in Hempfield.

Any takers?

Gee Gil, I have seen similar misleading and/or deceptive headlines right here in the paper, however you choose only to look at a "conservative" outlet which only convinces me that your goal is to silence ALL opposition.

There is little fair about the fairness act and that is why it was repealed.

And how, may I ask, was I racist? Did I claim or state anything racial?

I believe I merely restated something that was in the news, which is exactly what Gil does here.

But if I do it, I am a racist? When it is reported in the news, it is fine? I believe there is something called freedom of speech, which entitles us to all say anything we wish to say. You feel it is important to suppress my words? Now you sound a little bit like a hugely popular official who was elected by claiming he could save a failing nation by encouraging hope to the ailing masses.

His name was Adolph Hitler. Perhaps you've heard of him?

I'll take the wager, and in your loss, ask you to send the $8 to a charity of your choice. I do, however, appreciate your insight, and will gladly match your contribution to the same charity.

If I saw Gil's face in the mirror upon rising in the morn, I'd most assuredly swallow a .45 caliber Black Talon.

Mercy.

She made no comment about you not being able to say what you said? She said she didn't agree with you, which she is allowed to do. She isn't forcing you to be quiet. Freedom of speech and all. But keep trying to play that victim card.
You simply stated what was said in the news? Hoping a bomb goes off over King street? I didn't see that anywhere in the news. You should really watch what you say about that kind of thing, you know terroristic threats and all. Maybe you should read up on the limits of freedom of speech before you go running off at the mouth again.
Wow playing poor victim now? I thought (according to you) it was only the minorities that play the victim. I guess even rich white people like yourself try to play it too.

Newbie - were you educated at all?

She said - and I repeat it here because I cannot trust your ability to actually follow directions:
"MTWPDad, you should just keep quiet.

That sounds like an attempt at repression to me. She is referring to a previous thread. Calling me racist because of a previous thread. Now you have to criticize me in your backhanded slap at my success.

Go back to your comic books and dream a better life for yourself.

wow you are willing to kick in 8 bucks to charity? what a heckuva manheim twp republican you are. i gotta tell that is exceedingly generous given your wine growing estate in tuscany and your billion dollar a year business.
not many manheim twp pricks like you would be willing to kick in 8 dollars to charity,
god bless you .
you are a heckuva an example to republican pricks everywhere.

It's not really an estate, as it is only 38 acres of vines. And no, my business is not a billion dollar a year business, but I hope someday it will be.

But looking at your inability to actually use grammar correctly (much less capitalization), I see a fixation on pricks, so may I suggest that 'joe' is not so 'plain' after all?

Maybe you just need some thicker skin. An international businessman like yourself wouldn't get so upset about a lowly peasant calling him out. ohmy.gif So one little comment about you should keep quiet is enough to have you yell Repression!!!!. LMAO. Like i told you before, keep playing the victim. Everyone always feels sorry for the Rich white guy that likes to brag about how big his garage is. And as far as the backhanded slap goes, well i was just trying one of your tactics, seemed to work pretty well. Thanks.

I have not asked anyone to feel sorry for me. I just ask that we play on a level field. Same rules for everyone. Which, in your liberal way of thinking, you cannot comprehend.

Kettle black, Newbie.

ahhh yes 38 acres in tuscany and you still are generous enough to give a whopping 8 bucks to bums. well maybe.
may i suggest that you take care lest some dark fellow get his hands on your 8 bucks.

Regarding IISS, here is their findings on Iraq in 2002 after an intensive 8-week analysis:

Today, after four years without inspections, there can be no certainty about the extent of Iraq’s current capacities. A reasonable net assessment is that Iraq has no nuclear weapons but could build one quickly if it acquired sufficient fissile material. It has extensive biological weapons capabilities and a smaller chemical weapons stockpile. It has a small force of ballistic missiles with a range of 650km, that are capable of delivering CBW warheads, and has prepared other delivery methods for CBW, including manned aircraft and UAVs. Sooner or later, it seems likely that the current Iraqi regime will eventually achieve its objectives.

In compiling this Strategic Dossier, the IISS has sought to put the best available facts on this difficult issue before the wider public. This Strategic Dossier does not attempt to make a case, either way, as to whether Saddam Hussein’s WMD arsenal is a casus belli per se. Wait and the threat will grow; strike and the threat may be used. Clearly, governments have a pressing duty to develop early a strategy to deal comprehensively with this unique international problem.
