You know, it’s not like we’re looking to come out with the partisan fists swinging. But then I log into my e-mail and one of the first messages is this:
Maybe the chosen one isn’t as beloved as you and your fellow kool-aid drinkers would like everyone to believe. Of course, that added emissions burden he’s throwing onto the burning heap once known as the auto industry, that’ll sure help. And don’t throw the standard Democrap line of “gee, Bush screwed everything up so badly…” Before you do, do a little research on some of the real reasons the economy is where it is today, like going all the way back to Carter. Maybe making sure that “everyone” can have a house, even if they’re unemployed and can’t afford it, wasn’t such a good idea after all.
The “real reason the economy is where it is today” = IT’S ALL THE DHIMMOCRATZ FAULT!!!
This is what slays me about the Limbaugh listeners. We have just come through an era where Republicans controlled Congress five of the past seven sessions, and Bush held the presidency for eight years. The past 14/15 years have been one of Republican electoral dominance - the hold broken in Congress in 2006, and now completely broken.
You hear conservatives all the time talking about how this is a “center-right” country. This electoral dominance is a big reason why.
And so at the end of such an era, your average, non-partisan observer is going to say: Well, Repbublicans did have the wheel for quite some time. So maybe it’s fair and legitimate to place much/most of the blame for the wreckage in their laps.
In fact, that’s exactly what the country did say, in electing Obama.
But re-read the e-mail. Republicans bear no culpability! It’s Jimmy Carter’s fault!
We held the wheel firmly in our grasp; but we are not responsible for where the vehicle ended up.
Cops hear that same line every Saturday night, don’t they? I’m thinking they, too, treat it with all the respect it deserves.
