Sorry!

A Louisiana newspaper offers up a mea culpa:
When Bush first ran for president, he was governor of our sister state, Texas. We examined his track record as governor and decided to support him for the presidency on the grounds that he was a good man, honest, truthful, and compassionate and a good leader.
We knew he never won any prizes for being smart, but we thought he had good common sense and we supported him throughout his two terms. When he invaded Iraq, we immediately knew it was ill advised and a terrible mistake. Still, we supported him in the belief we didn’t know all the facts and he did.
We continued to support him through his two terms hoping against hope that he would correct his many misjudgments and mistakes. Sadly, we were wrong on every count.
Without Louisiana, Bush would have never been president of the United States. We believed he would continue the legacy of President Ronald Reagan who single handedly restored America and the Republican Party to new heights. Instead, Bush single handedly disgraced America and destroyed the Republican Party.
<snip>
We deeply regret having recommended Bush to our readers and profusely apologize for our mistake in character and judgment.
See? Is that so hard?

Each one getting there last verbal jab in, and feeling better all the time I'm sure. Getting just a little closer to even the score with him...or maybe get one point ahead. Just loving to hate the man who so completely controlled our destiny for the past 8 years. We individually have no control over our life's outcomes of course. We would rather sulk over how much the world hates us because of him, or how much money our government is throwing out the window because of him. Does it really matter if the world hates us? I imagine we couldn't possibly get everyone to love us....could we? Is it a little ego trip we like to take about being Americans or how we just live for that next headline in Europe about how unique and special we are as a country? What a noble gesture by this news paper to apologize to its readers as Bush heads out the door. I'm sure their weekly distribution willl double no doubt. I wonder if they hadn't gotten some small clue about their future displeasure with the man prior to his departure and stepped up.. oh say 4 years ago and said something a little sooner...you know gotten the word out a little more, maybe he wouldn't have gotten a second term? You know what....it was their fault!!!.....it wasn't Bush's fault at all.... it was them thar Louisianaians!!! |
Artie See 1/22/09 11:33 AM | Does it really matter if the world hates us? Yes.
The United States economy has become increasingly dependent upon foreign trade. The vast majority of consumer goods are manufactured in Third World countries, and U.S. manufacturers are heavily dependent upon foreign sales to maintain their profitability.
The U.S. needs the good will of foreign nations to maintain the value of the dollar. The $10+ trillion national debt, and the immense trade deficit, are being financed by foreign investment. If the U.S. were to upset and/or anger enough nations, foreigners would no longer trust their massive investments in the U.S., and start selling. This would force the value of the U.S. dollar to drop precipitously, which would cause the price of consumer goods, oil, natural gas, and other materials to increase exponentially. This would create economic conditions in the U.S. that would cause our current troubles to seem no worse than a summer vacation. |

Thanks for the economics lesson, but I prefer to read Forbes. Trust me on this one Artie See, those foreign nations buying up all our debt are not doing it for our good... they know we have the largest middle class, and most well rounded economy (even w/ this debacle on our hands). By the way, they already hate us, and if they could, they'd make us go away....the Chinese, Russians, most of the EU, Saudi Arabia and all countries but Canada in the Western Hemisphere. The dollar is already on life support, it's just most other currencies are already buried, so they keep buying our slightly less worthless $$. What is scary is that it appears that Pres. Obama is leaning towards going back in time to a socialist agenda with our economy which is where our bailout (Communist China) just came from. |
