Different worlds

We’ll get into this more in the vid later, but Gallup has a new poll out, final one for the Bush presidency, which shows Bush bumping to a 34 percent approval rating - better than Nixon or Harry Truman when they left office, tied with Carter.
At the same time, Bush’s disapproval rating is 61 percent - the highest in the modern era except for Nixon.
But Josh Marshall notes a nugget within the poll that, even now, doesn’t fail to amaze me:
But what really strikes me is the internals. Democrats and Independents still live in one country while Republicans live in another one entirely. Approval among Dems is at 6%; among Independents 28%; among Republicans, 75%.
Different worlds. And even without Bush it’s where the country is, what Obama faces.
I mean, this is what amazes me - that a full three-quarters of Republicans out there think back on the Bush years and say: Good job!

But remember, Bush never claimed to try and "live up to polls or their expectations", or to change policy in response to polls. He did what he felt was right...sometimes I agreed and sometimes I didn't.... and most times you didn't agree I'm sure. Upholding the Constitution doesn't mean caving to popular opinion. Here is an example of the 2 different worlds... In my world during this transition period he has been completely transparent w/ Obama's incoming team and has elevated the co-operation to ensure a smooth passing of the batton. Giving intel briefings, letting staffers sit in on high level meetings, knowing they'll have to hit the ground running....in other words doing what is best for the country. Now in your world, that is problably seen as 'Bush is so lousy he's already checked out...doesn't want any responsibility', one column I read by a Lib called for mass protesting before departure for all the 'wrong' he's done to we Americans..."don't let him leave Washington that easy" ....man...do you want him out as Pres or not?! In your world, I think Bush loses if he gets out of bed. |

I'm curious what legal wrongs you're referring to? Gitmo? Lying under oath? Firing those judges ...which he has every right to do as Pres? |
