When Mr. Loaf is the intellectual heavyweight

I swear I’m not making this up:
The new Alan Colmes-less Hannity premieres Monday with frequent Fox News guest Al Sharpton filling the liberal seat on Sean Hannity’s newly christened “Great American Panel.”
Rep. Michelle Bachman (R-Minn.) will fill the seat on the right. (And she should have plenty to talk about given the Senate dispute in her state between Al Franken and Norm Coleman.)
The X-factor on the panel: Meatloaf.
Tonya Harding and Todd Bridges weren’t available?

berutt 1/9/09 2:01 PM | And somewhere, David Brinkley and Chet Huntley are crying... |
usedmeat 1/10/09 12:34 AM | And somewhere, David Brinkley and Chet Huntley are crying... Not likely, they were all teared out by the likes of Maureen Dowd, Chris Matthews, Keith Obermann, and Tim Russert. |
ArtVandolay 1/10/09 7:01 AM | Yeah, the lefties really dig it when they get to see celubutards like Springsteen, Striesand, Richard Dreyfuss, Dixie Chicks, and Spike Lee. Of course these folks have to toe the line to get publicity and to sell tickets and music.
What Gil dos not say is when these phonies get on the air, they become gods.
So a guy like Meatloaf or Charlie Daniels or Kelsey Grammer Jon Voight or Clint Eastwood, wants to express an opinion, and it is mocked and shold not be allowed. God forbid someone hears them and atually listens to an alternate position!
Gil - The school of mockery journalism is dying a slow death. And the only ones surviving so far are Olbermann and Maddow. Unless you count Jon Stewert with canned laughter inserted in to his gags. Maybe take a more original approach for the readers of LNP. |

so why are people on the left phonies and the people on the right all honest. haven't you been polarized enough by the likes of hannity and fatman rush? at what point do you come to the realization that they are manipulating your emotions to enrich themselves?
al sharpton is a demagogue yet why does hannity have him on? because he knows it will make you mad. and when you get mad, you watch again to get even madder. then you feel self justification in your moral outrage and by rote become better than those they instruct you to hate for no good reason. think of it art, why do you hate them so much, what exactly have they done other than to disagree?
they are yanking your chain art. |
ArtVandolay 1/10/09 10:26 AM | Joe: # 1. I don't defend Hannity or Rush.
#2. The phoniness comes from the fact their is genuine hate on the part of the people I mentioned. Did you hear Spike Lee when asked to to talk to a Fox reporter at the Dem Convention? Did you ever listen to Richard Dreyfuss talk? Do you listen to the " heros" spew the disrespect and genuine hate for Bush? Lets put him and Cheney behind bars. And it's done with a superior emotion knowing that since they have fame based on music or ticket sales they are somehow really, really smart and of course people like you will lap up what they say. For me, there is no way I'll be swayed by someone's superficial fame. Getting that kind fame in the arts was pure luck for anyone who gets it, not becuase they were smart.
And if Obama falls short of everyones expectations, you will have more hate spewed from the people he "lets down". So there you go, Joe. You can wait for the celebs to tell you what to think - I'll come up with my own ideas, thanks. |
clanker 1/10/09 10:59 AM | When celebs speak, people listen because they're familiar with them, they identify. Ultraconservative John Voight became a presence at the Republican Convention and you didn't hear alot of wailing and gnashing of teeth by that. Bill Maher regularly has offbeat celebs on his HBO show. You don't really expect words of eloquent wisdom from the likes of Coolio. Jon Stewart has the best guests and regularly gets into some pretty insightful stuff. |

well people that "hate" bush believe that they have good reasons. a war that was all a series of mistakes by other people, a refusal to even try to find out what those mistakes were, a stunning display of arrogance and uncaringness after katrina, torture, trampling on rights, a refusal to entertain the slighest bit of responsibilty for the collapse of our economy, etc etc. these are issues that all americans should be passionate about. perhaps you are mistaking their passion for hatred. perhaps the idea of holding bush accountable for anything makes you mad and so you assign hatred as their motive. do you think bush should be held accountable or should he beat the rap?
perhaps if your side were to hold bush accountable it would go along way towards healing our nation. instead we get this chorus of " it's not bush's fault". we all know better , art, including you. |
UncommonSense 1/10/09 12:19 PM | I have to LMAO everytime I see an article like this. it reminds me of a few years back during a Jeopardy Specials week, or some such nonsense. One evening it was the Hollywood crowd and Oliver Stone was one of the contestants. Using the ability to answer Jeopardy questions as the evaluative condition, the hollywood types, and especially Stone, came off as completely out of touch/inexperienced with the knowledge base the game chooses from. Stone looked like a moron, quite frankly. The most able and capable celebrities on were, believe it or not, the WWE superstars - with Triple H being the most "learned".
Go figure. |
skeptic2 1/10/09 12:35 PM | I guess there will be a rotation. Will see if Hannity can get articulate liberals to go on. Have to wonder if his intent is to just have a straw man or if he dares bring on someone who can win an argument. The other guy crying is William Buckley. |
area man 1/10/09 3:54 PM | Oh, c'mon Gil. You cannot put Meat in the same category as Todd Bridges or Tanya Harding. He would do anything for love, he just won't do that... whatever 'that' is. |
Artie See 1/10/09 10:02 PM | What Gil dos not say is when these phonies get on the air, they become gods. You really need a reality check, because yours has obviously bounced.
The phoniness comes from the fact their is genuine hate on the part of the people I mentioned. "Genuine hate"? Did you say "genuine hate"?
Have you listened to Rush Limbaugh? Or, do you enjoy his venom?
How about Ann Coulter, who is the most hateful commentator of all?
And there are others of the same persuasion... |

Yep, like Rachel Maddow, Keith Olberbann, Bill Press, Alex Bennet, Ed Schultz.
Open your ears, Artie - you too can learn soemthing about hate for the sake of hating. |

smatter art....don't like it that the left is doing what the fat draft dodger and others have done all these years? it's a bitter taste of your own medicine. no wonder you don't like it.LOL |
clanker 1/12/09 9:22 PM | Olberman, Maddow, Stewart. Why do these people sound so reasonable and the likes of Hannity and Limbaugh grate on my sense of reason? Well, in my view, conservative talk shows have been speculative, reactionary, and wrong. For now, the political sense of rightness has shifted left toward center, leaving the right out there to reinvent itself or pull down the Republican party for a good long time. It's all a matter of perspective though. |

Olberman, Maddow, Stewart. Many conservative talk shows obviously do not represent the vast majority of Republicans; instead, these present an extremist point of view under false pretenses.
This country obviously needs at least two strong and functional political parties to maintain some semblance of political balance. The tragedy for the Republican party is that an extremist faction has been controlling its national agenda for more than a decade, which has disenchanted and discouraged far too many Americans. |

Your sense of reason? You do watch Olbermann and Maddow, I assume? You have got to be kidding, I am not sure you watch the same versions as I do. How can you say with a straight face that is reasonable journalism? By the way, how did you like Olbermann's tribute to himself last night as if he were Al Pacino on the The Actors Studio? What a joke. |

Ain't America wonderful? A Republic that represents folk on the left, right, and everywhere in between. Not perfectly . . . not by a long-shot sometimes . . . But good enough to get us at least this far.
The Republican party needs to pay attention, take notes, and learn from its mistakes. Opportunity knocks.
Go Obama and Company!!! |
