“Another shop center eyed for Fruitville.”
This was always in the cards. I’m sure the objections will be the familiar ones - what do we need another shopping center for! Save farmland! But this piece of property is more amenable to large-scale commercial development than virtually any other site in Lancaster County - bordering Route 30, right next to the on- and off-ramps, and directly across the street from an existing shopping center.
Again, if you’re talking “smart growth,” the idea is that this type of project should go here - within the urban growth boundary - so it doesn’t go “there,” out in the hinterlands. From a planning perspective, from a logical perspective - whatever noises we might make about “not needing” additional retail, this makes some sense. I don’t for one moment expect that to dull the opposition, though.

There is relatively little opposition here. |
usedmeat 12/24/08 11:37 AM | On my way to work I pass a site that is under construction for a small shop of some kind and all I can think of who can afford it? As the economy contracts consumers will spend on necessities and not much else. That business you were going to start selling Princess Diana and Obama plates? Forget about it. |
