Equal footing

O’Reilly.

You know, if I’m this group, the Freedom From Religion Foundation, I’m not so confrontational. My sign says merely, “Welcome the winter solstice,” instead of making a point to say all religion is false, etc.

There was simply no need to be that obnoxious. If you want equal access, take advantage of equal access; the opportunity shouldn’t be used to belittle. And here, it was.

So I hate to say I’m kind of… sort of… agreeing with O’Reilly. But then I read his column on the subject and the feeling passed.

My question for O’Reilly - and those who think like him - is this:

If the sign had included merely the first line - “At this season of the Winter Solstice, may reason prevail” - would you be waging war on it nonetheless? Because it would still be sponsored by athiests, and athiests would still be getting equal time.

Is it the obnoxiousness of the display that offends you - or the facts that athiests, here, are being given equal footing?
