Naughty and nice

Because, see, if a store doesn’t actually use the word “Christmas” then the store hates Christmas and is trying to destroy Christmas, and good red-blooded God-fearing American loons shouldn’t shop there.

According to Dr. James Dobson:

Eight firms caved immediately: Best Buy, Cabela’s, Kohl’s, Lowe’s, Nordstrom, Pier 1, Toys R Us and Wal-Mart.

The Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy replied to the FOF missive, but, the group soberly reports, “did not convey a clear commitment to use the term ‘Christmas.’ Rather, they communicated their intent to approach their marketing in broad and diverse terms.”

Added FOF, “We’ll have to observe and see if what they publish avoids an insulting marginalization of Christmas.”

See??? To acknowledge that not all the people shopping at your store are Christians is “an insulting marginalization of Christmas!”

Dobson and his ilk aren’t interested in “saving” Christmas at all. What they are interested in doing is re-establishing the cultural primacy of their religious beliefs. They don’t care that America is a pluralistic nation; their faith - and thus them - must take precedence, officially and always.

Why are some so called Christians trying to tie Christmas in with shopping? What happened to trying to keep Christmas from becoming too commercialized, or is that a thing of the past?

Very few people care about the true meaning of Christmas. We're living in a "me me" world. The WalMart incident on Long Island is sickening - the crowd did not care that someone died as a result of their greed.

Last night it warmed my heart to be able to sing "Joy to the World" at the end of the Tuba Christmas concert. It was also wonderful to see so many churches reaching out to the lonely and hungry for Thanksgiving.

You always seem to know where a lot of the things going on around Lancaster are located. Where do you find all of these things? Any suggestions or reading pamphlets that will outline some events for this lovely Christmas holiday?

Artie See posted some useful links for you to read.

I'm downtown a lot at Central Market as well as other businesses like Prince Street Cafe, Ad Lib Cafe and Annie Bailey's.

Next Friday is December's First Friday for the downtown. Find a decent parking space (not in the expensive lots though) and walk around. There should be horse drawn carriage rides commencing at the Fulton Bank and as always Gallery Row on North Prince Street as well as the shops on 300 block of North Queen St. The Quilt Museum has free admission on First Friday - I highly recommend viewing the history themed Christmas tree display on the museum's first floor.

Most of all - have fun!! smile.gif

Unfortunately, there are those of us who can't afford anything more costly than the Central Market... lol_sad.gif
