IMO the use of queer by members of the homosexual community, much like the use if the n word by african americans, is done to destigmitize a word/ term that was used the majority to oppress. My daughter has a t-shirt that says "queer spawn" she wore this during a time when she was having difficulty with Christian students at her school who repeatedly told her she was going to hell for having lesbian parents. I believe she wore it to take the power away from those bulling her. After all you can't be picked on for something you embrace. |
