Role modeling

John McCain on Joe the Plumber:
“an American hero, a great citizen of Ohio and my role model.”
Yeah. I’m thinking if Joe the Plumber shows up at one of McCain’s eight houses unannounced, McCain is having security show his “role model” the door.
Also, via Sullivan:

The Onion, calling this shot back in ‘93.

Yep. Average Americans should only be heard from when they can be used to demonstrate how unfortunate their lives are... you know, no health insurance, lost the family farm, can't afford college, etc. Otherwise they need to shut up and let Obama do the talking.
Elitists like Sullivan and Smart know who should speak. We just need to listen and learn. |

clanker 10/31/08 2:10 PM | Joe the plumber made a couple of quips that sounded like far right rhetoric, so naturally McCain wanted him to be his surrogate running mate. Oops. I don't think he was fully vetted either. |

You mean Obama. We're talking about the current campaign. And did you hear that Bush isn't running?

Yep. You guys keep proving my point. Since he doesn't have a hard luck story he should go away and not be heard from. How dare he speak out? He's not a member of the intellectual or political class. |
cyberscribbler 10/31/08 2:16 PM | Since he doesn't have a hard luck story he should go away and not be heard from. I thought his hard luck story was that he didn't make enough money working for someone else. He never got his plumbing license. Now the banks can't lend him money to buy the business from his boss and these problems are somehow Obama's fault.
So much for personal accountability. |

You're right. Somehow we have to find a perfect average American. These damn people with personal problems, who somehow persevere without help or hindrance from the government, are not suitable to speak to the public.
Like I said, he's not a member of the intellectual or political class so he needs to shut up. |
