McCain invokes Joe Namath, “guarantees” victory.
Unfortunately he’s channeling the kissing-Suzy-Kolbert Namath here, not the one who beat the Colts. I realize Republicans like to see themselves as the upstart Jets, the underdogs. That’s part of the Republican mentality, this idea that they’re always outnumbered, always surrounded, always the underdog.
This year at least - and most years - the GOP is the Colts, the establishment. The power.
Also, wanted to add something I’d heard in response to the “Joe the Plumber” nonsense McCain can’t stop invoking. You’ve probably seen the ad - “I’m Joe the Plumber.” Because we’re all Joe the Plumber, see.
Except, not always.
“Joe the Plumber makes $250,000 a year,” said the waiter. “That’s ten times more than what I make.
“I am not Joe the Plumber.
“But besides that - all this talk about ’spreading the wealth’ - yeah, if you make more than $250,000 year, maybe that’s a concern because it’ll be your wealth. But if you make less than that, like I do, and like most people do - that sounds like a pretty good deal.”
