OK, so it WAS the campaign

Remember what I said about the McCain campaign not being guilty of race-baiting?
Not so much:
John McCain’s Pennsylvania communications director told reporters in the state an incendiary version of the hoax story about the attack on a McCain volunteer well before the facts of the case were known or established — and even told reporters outright that the “B” carved into the victim’s cheek stood for “Barack,” according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions.
John Verrilli, the news director for KDKA in Pittsburgh, told TPM Election Central that McCain’s Pennsylvania campaign communications director gave one of his reporters a detailed version of the attack that included a claim that the alleged attacker said, “You’re with the McCain campaign? I’m going to teach you a lesson.”
Verrilli also told TPM that the McCain spokesperson had claimed that the “B” stood for Barack …
<snip>
The McCain spokesperson’s claims — which came in the midst of extraordinary and heated conversations late yesterday between the McCain campaign, local TV stations, and the Obama camp, as the early version of the story rocketed around the political world — is significant because it reveals a McCain official pushing a version of the story that was far more explosive than the available or confirmed facts permitted at the time.
Because it was useful on so many levels. See - Obama supporters are scary! See - Black people are scary!
See - if Obama wins, hide your white wimmin!

From the same damn article...
"There's no evidence that anyone from McCain national headquarters put out a version of events like this."
Further, your "white wimmin" comments are an afront to conservatives who see themselves truly as their brothers keeper, who have been opposed to many aspects of this administration, who actually care about all peoples - no matter their color, ethnicity, whatever. We do exist.
You sir, however, are playing the part of the race baiter quite well. If you haven't figured it out yet - you will get your wish. We will, most likely, have President Barack Obama. I'm not upset about this. Obama will be by far a more inspiring national leader. But you seem to be attempting to make a name for yourself similar to Rush, Hannity, Olberman and Maddow. In the style you have railed against many times. I recall your "no unilateral disarmament" comment.
Except, anything I recall of true leadership comes from leading by example. |
justplainjoe 10/25/08 12:22 PM | more erratic behavior from mccain. he called the victim , to score political points, before doing any due dilligence. he rushed in and got burned. this is not a calm deliberative man. mccain looks like a jackass for having phoned the poor "victim". is mccain's staff that incompetent? well yes they are. either that or mccain is calling the shots and is cracking up. |
BigKahuna 10/25/08 6:11 PM | this is my number one worry about McCain. He jumps on things so quickly. thats the last thing this country needs. He's a loose cannon. |

It was a McCain campaign spokesperson in PA, Peter Feldman. |

Gil, YOUR comments don't just throw the race card--they throw the entire deck, jokers included.
This kind of writing is completely irresponsible. It's not even worthy of tabloid journalism. And lest you try to accuse me of being--"God forbid"--an overly-sensitive McCain supporter, I am not.
Can't you just once try to take the high road? |

That is one of my main worries as well. I've been saying that for some time now. |
