Loading the bases

Missed Clinton’s speech and John Kerry’s speech last night - both of which were said to have been excellent; will catch them on the Web later today - but did make it back from the fantasy football draft in time to watch Biden.

Wow.

If there’s a criticism of his speech, it’s that he didn’t lay into Bush and Cheney and their heir, McCain, as heavily as he might have. That’s been the one thing about this convention - the Democrats haven’t gotten as dirty as the Republican have gotten, and they’ve barely begun to fling the mud. And there’s so much of it that could, and maybe ultimately will, get thrown at the GOP. As noted yesterday, why is no one talking about Darth Cheney, he of the 18 percent approval ratings, a metaphor if there ever was one for the power-hungry recklessness which has seared its painful imprint on the past seven years?

Nonetheless. Biden’s speech was moving and - for a party used to losing presidential elections (having lost five of the past seven), for a political sentiment that has been wandering in the wilderness for a while, Biden’s speech was rousing, a reminder of why that sentiment still matters and always has mattered.

I do think Obama stole some of Biden’s thunder, coming on at the end that way. A preview of tonight, I suppose, where he has to give the best speech of his life, on the biggest stage he’s ever been on. Bases are loaded. And here comes the pitch.

Seems like the Russians have taken some tips from US.

Russia, which is flush with petrodollars because of the rise in the price of oil, has not been afraid to flex its muscle in recent years to bring its neighbors in line. Two years ago, Gazprom, the national oil company then run by Dmitri A. Medvedev, now the Russian president, cut off natural gas supplies to Ukraine in the winter because of a price dispute.

Gazprom vs Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips over control of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipe-line.

How naive of me.
Yes we must protect the Georgian churches from the 3rd century, as McCain told Rick Warren. rolleyes.gif

Good point. Same with Czechoslovakia. What right did they have to assert their independence and allow some basic freedoms for their citizens.

Could it be true that the American left is rekindling its relationship with the Soviet dictatorships?

Funny how I haven't heard one word about terrorism this week, except the terrorism that insurance companies inflict on the public. Did we catch Bin Laden? Has Al Qaeda disbanded?

I did notice a very tepid applause from the convention last night when Biden mentioned our brave soldiers, as opposed to the wild response to almost every other subject.

Why do you still call them Soviets? Still fighting the cold war?

Why is it repugnicans like McShame talk about freedom then go about trying to take it away. Repugnicans haven't been about freedom for years. To paraphrase another post from another repugnican, Politicos are in business to make money. When government became about making money and not leading our country is when we started loosing our freedom.

Which is it American interests (the pipeline) or freedom?
Should the financial and human costs be incurred by non-stockholders?

Why can't they just hire Blackwater & Halliburton directly, instead of making US foot the bill for them?

They have in he past and probably still do. National Fruit hired mercenaries to kill unionist and topple governments to prop up their "banana republics".

I know it's difficult for all you libs to understand that our economy is directly tied into the price of a barrel of oil.

I know all those economic concepts of supply and demand don't work in your heads. But it is reality. Our government needs to keep oil flowing throughout the world to keep our economy going.

If their is a major cutback in oil flow we are talking depression not recession.
Now some of you way left libs would like that. It would make you very happy to see the rich fall.
Too bad they would fall on poor people.

The continued free flow of oil in the world should be a very high priority of any pesident.

Please tell me what stock do I buy if I am a politician?

Or is this all under the table money? The great conspiracy.

Oil is the life blood of the country. Even Bill Clinton new that.

Line drive towards center field, It's a grandslam.

It's the Patriots taking the field in the 2002 Superbowl - "It's not about me, it's about us." (the team)

It's not about any one player who thinks they deserve more passes thrown to them. It's about us.

It's about time. A politician of any stripe, finally gets it!

Well Done!
