But I tell ya, they still rock, although Mick looks a little ridiculous doing his dance. Charlie Watts, was wheezing, but he is still as solid as you can get on the skins. Ron Wood and and Keith are just plain scarry looking, but they still have it. I think Ronnie Wood MIGHT be wearing a rug with the Birds Nest do. They also had a great horn section and backup singers. Best of all Scorsese makes fun of himself. Oh Yeah, Bill and Hill made an appearance and that was funny. |

Oh Yeah, Bill and Hill made an appearance and that was funny. I haven't watched "Shine A Light" specifically because the Stones are so old (big fan of Scorsese's "The Last Waltz," tho). I'm a huge Stones fan - but believe the band peaked around 1969-1972; there's a lot of footage out there from the 1972 tour on YouTube (most of it from the unreleased documentary), and there's a band that, at that time, really was the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World. And, you know, it's great that Mick and Keith (and Charlie and Ronnie) are still around and still making music; but it's just... different. I remember when the Guns & Roses album came out - I was indifferent to it, but I knew guys who were really really really into it. They were hair band, but not really; there was more depth to the music. There seemed a ferocious intelligence to Axl Rose that was lacking in most heavy metal. It was different; and now it's simply part of the landscape. Like hearing "Good Vibrations" in the elevator - there was a time when that song was absolutely breathtaking and groundbreaking. Now? It's just an oldie. The best rock and roll ages well. The people who make the music, and those of us who listen, don't always do the same. |
