That would be, consevative supporters of the Democratic presidential candidate. Bob Novak says Colin Powell is among them:
[Powell’s] tenuous 13-year relationship with the Republican Party, following his retirement from the Army, has ended. The national security adviser for Ronald Reagan left the present administration bitter about being ushered out of the State Department a year earlier than he wanted. As an African American, friends say, Powell is sensitive to racial attacks on Obama and especially on Obama’s wife, Michelle.
The racial attacks - especially on Michelle Obama - will continue, by the way. Because that sort of thing is all a certain portion of the conservative movement’s got; be funny to see how many African-American Republicans are still around when it’s all over.
Actually, the best line of Novak’s piece may be this, about one Larry Hunter, who for a while ghost-wrote a column for Jack Kemp and is ” recognized inside the Beltway as an ardent supply-sider”:
Explaining his support for the uncompromisingly liberal Obama, Hunter blogged on June 6: “The Republican Party is a dead rotting carcass with a few decrepit old leaders stumbling around like zombies in a horror version of ‘Weekend With Bernie,’ handcuffed to a corpse.”
So does that make McCain the corpse? Who’s Andrew McCarthy?

While I love reading stuff like that, they have proved to be a formidable foe. They seem to own everything: the media, the war machine, the presidency. And while it seems they might roll over this time, and let our side win one, just so they can regroup and become the opposition, it just doesn't feel right. They're not gonna give up that easy. Too much is at stake. The Supreme Court for one.
It does feel real good to see their unholy coalition fall apart, it is absolutely amazing they were able to hold it together for so long. And when we see them floundering, oh please, I sure hope we stockpiled a a crap-load of anvils, so we can toss them a few well placed assists, as they are drowning.
There is so much that has created a slow burn, and it goes way back. That 24% ( I used to call them the 39%) (ya know, the hard core Bushies): I wanna hear 'em squeal.
