Everywhere a sign

June 15th, 2008 1:27 am · 16 comments

On the way out to the park in Silver Spring, I kept seeing sign after sign. On the way back I figured I’d try to count them - 29 between Silver Spring Park and Good Drive.

It’s those “Seeing Red? Vote Blue” signs - the Lancaster Democrats voter registration drive. “Vote Democrat for a Change.” It’s actually a pretty effective slogan - because who isn’t seeing Red these days. And while many of the signs were along public rights-of-way (next to newspaper boxes, perhaps?) others were in people’s yards - 3 in a row close to Centerville Road, and I’m thinking: There are this many Democrats in Lancaster County?

Maybe not. Or not yet.

Gil, that was uncalled for. You should be ashamed.

Post your thoughts and comments about this blog post.

Are you referring to the "See red, vote blue" signs? A little early for posting
"vote" signs. Thought there were some restrictions as to timing and duration.
Someone found a loophole?

No he shouldn't. I laughed at that line. And if people placed these signs on the ROW, then they can be easily removed if need be. Just like newspaper boxes.

Now see what happened... you let all these "outsiders" in... whoda thunk some of them would be these dimmocrats? I told ya we shoulda stopped the immigration!

As a lifelong resident of this county, I too have been amazed by the number of democrat signs I have seen. Heck I have even heard some diehard (and I mean DIEHARD) republicans saying they won't vote for McCain, and will vote for Obama.

On a similar note, has anyone else noticed that if you close your eyes during a McCain ad, it sounds like W is doing a campaign ad for McCain? It is honestly spooky how much they sound alike ::shudder::

I was in Lancaster this weekend and saw those signs. I was also amazed at the number of Obama signs I saw on people's lawns. I saw no McCain signs at all. Only Obama signs and the Seeing Red signs. I think it's a sign (pun intended).

Ya sure …die hard Republicans voting for Oboomer…you found the only 2 on earth.

If you close your eyes Oboomer sounds like The Rev. Jesse whipping up a congregation. sad.gif

I think it is a sign that Republicans know the laws and obey the laws and removed their signs the week after the primary, and Democrats know the laws and couldn't care less about the laws and enjoy shoving it in people's faces.

Funny you mention that. My sister and I were watching one of those McCain town meeting things and we both thought he was trying to impersonate Ronald Reagan. If you close your eyes, I think he sounds EXACTLY like R.R. rolleyes.gif

Sorry to burst your bubble, LDB, but I am in no way an Oboomer fan. I don't know what I am going to do in November ... I may just skip the Pres vote; I don't like either of my "choice of evils" rolleyes.gif

As to the diehards, LDB, there are far more than 2. People are frustrated, overburdened and tired from the past 8 years, and McCain isn't giving much hope for significant changes in what has become the status quo. Personally, I don't think ANY candidate is going to knock our socks off with their brillant plans to fix the hell we are in, but we certainly don't need someone who plans to plunge us deeper into the bowels.

Funny, just about 2 weeks ago I saw a McDonald (sorry, Mac) sign still on Rohrerstown Rd across from Monro Muffler. Last time I checked, he was a Republican, not a Democrat. Drives me nuts when people say "all Reps (or all Dems) this or that or whatever". Stereotyping is wrong, no matter what the targeted trait is.

All the posts so far were referring to presidential signs. I commented on the presidential signs. Drive through the NW and W side of Lancaster, city and twp. I have yet to see a single McCain OR RON PAUL sign left. It is all Obama signs. And just for the record, I very NICELY mentioned to several neighbors that the Twp. rules require the signs to be removed right after the election. Each one bristled and replied that when rules say one thing, it makes them want to do just the opposite. Great attitude. I wonder how they would feel if I put my "NObama '08 (keep the change!)" signs out and left them there till November. Except that MY signs would disappear (mysteriously!) and my house would suffer damage. Funny how that doesn't happen to Democrats -- who love free speech as long as the speech AGREES WITH THEM!

1) I was not attacking you; I am entitled to my opinion that NEITHER side plays fair, and that not EVERYONE in either party plays by the rules. You are not the only one who has said "all Dems" or all Reps". I will try to restrain myself from quoting one of your posts in the future, and will just reply.

2) Where can I get one of those "NObama '08" signs???
