Kennedy: Brain tumor

Cancerous, too:

A cancerous brain tumor caused the seizure Sen. Edward M. Kennedy suffered over the weekend, doctors said Tuesday in a grim diagnosis for one of American politics’ most enduring figures. “He remains in good spirits and full of energy,” the doctors for the 76-year-old Massachusetts Democrat said in a statement.

They said tests conducted after the seizure showed a tumor in Kennedy’s left parietal lobe. Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma, they said.

His treatment will be decided after more tests but the usual course includes combinations of radiation and chemotherapy.

Glioma being described here.

I've never liked the man but I feel for his family; it's difficult to watch someone go through cancer treatments.

Cancer. How terrible. My wife had skin cancer, and that's bad enough. My prayers will be with the Kennedy family. I may not agree with the man on almost everything, but that's an awful thing for anyone to have to go through.

Senator Kennedy has certainly had quite a time of it. Such tragic loss throughout his family, and a history, both good and bad with his own career.

As the other posters have stated, my thoughts are with his family , and hope that he will be comfortable with his remaining days.

Although a great admirer of both John and Robert, I could never really warm up to Ted either.Way to Liberal for my comfort.

Never the less, I wish him well.

Republicans are not like your " over at" Daily Kos or Huffington posters who wish death and slow pain on people like Tony Snow.

Yea whatever you say Art. Just had to get your jab in there didn't ya. We all know Repubs never wish bad on anyone, they are all saints. Moron. As far as hopes comment, i mean whether or not you like the person really doesn't matter and prefacing it with that does seem alittle off color but whatever. I mean thats like me saying well they were always a D$%^ but i feel sorry for his family? I don't feel sorry for him, just his family.

Kennedy is no fan of mine, but my heart goes out to him and his family. It was in May of 2001 my Dad was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma #4 brain tumor, same as what Kennedy has. He did the radiation and the Chemo, but was told even with that, he life expectancy would be nine months, he lived ten months. Glioblastoma is a very fast growing cancer that is a mutation of healthy cells that grow out of the connective tissue of the brain. When surgery is done the surgeons have a hard time distinguishing healthy cells from diseased cells and there usually are deep tentacles rooted in the brain that are inoperable. The sad thing is that usually all the person’s mental faculties are completely lost before they actually die. We had to have our Dad admitted to a nursing home for the last four months of his life and at the very last he was practically in a vegatative state. As a family we were at the point of deciding whether he needed to be fed with a tube. My oldest brother was very reluctant to do that, becasue of the state Dad was in. We didn't need to decide, because he died the next day.

Both of my parents died from cancer, each had mets to the brain. I can't say I know what you've been through but I do know how it feels to make decisions of that magnitude. I'm sorry to hear about your father and what your family went through.

I think Lysol is saying that's exactly what you said. Sounds like you could care less whether Teddy lives or dies, but you feel sorry for his family. Regardless of whether you like him or not, he's given tremendous service to his country and no person deserves this disease.

Goldi - Sorry to hear of your father's ordeal. My father recently had a seizure as a result of a mini-stroke. He's still in a nursing home, but we're hoping he'll be out by week's end.

The man should be living out his days in prison for murder but hey he's a Kennedy and she was a nobody right? lol_thumbsdown.gif

I hope your father will be okay.

As much as I feel sorry for him, you have a point that he should have had to pay for his crime. (Outside of paying for Mary Jo Kopechne's family's silence). Not sure that serving a life sentence would have been the answer, though.

You got that right, Twinmom! I was just thinking the same thing before I read your post- here a prominent figure is diagnosed with what appears to be a terminal illness, and the personal Partisan crap begins immediately.

God forbid anything is mentioned without having to throw Bush under the bus without hesitation. I believe we are discussing Senator Kennedy and his misgivings, not the current President.
Seems to be the only defense.

A real shame..... whatever your personal politics, the man has an illness that will be an ordeal for him and his family both.

Ok thats great, it was an accident. It happend 40 years ago, time to move on there Hope. Regardless of what you think of the mn, its a horrible thing to have happen. Even a man like GW, who in my mind is 1000 times worse than Ted Kennedy would get my sympathy for something like this. And i wouldn't preface my post with "well i really never liked the guy but". I guess your just not that big of a person.

Nice post tour, yeah like you said, it shouldn't matter what party is is from, this "well i really dont' like him but i feel sorry for him" is just BS. And as far as people talking about President. We are talking about the hear and now, not what happened 40 years ago. He has made mistakes and he will pay for them on the other side. Funny how you seem to let stuff slide with your own party, but when its the other side, you can go back years and years and suddenly thats ok. This post was about his health right now, rather than posters simply expressing sympathy, they had to preface it with stupid comments.

This is just plain sad. All these people making these disgusting comments about Senator Kennedy.

Don't tell me, let me guess: You consider yourself a Christian, right? You attend church on a regular basis, right? You even sit in the first pew, right?

Well, my grandmother used to call people like you, 'Front Row Hypocrites'

When your time is up, I imagine you'll be staying in a nice 'warm' location.

Lets look it at this from a political point of view, (even though I brought up daily Kos before) - you like TedKen or not

how does his illness and possible death before the general election effect the outcome in November?

How do the Clintons deal with this since she won Mass and lost Kennedy's endorsement?

Even McCain co sponsored bills with Kennedy on a number of issues.

How does Obama use this to his political advantage?

Maybe some diverted discussion will stop us from calling each other names!
