I Can Hear the Grass Grow
The Move, British band, 1967. This band would ultimately morph into Electric Light Orchestra; after one album original leading light Roy Wood left to go do his bizarre, face-painted thing with the band Wizzard in 1972.
There’s a great story behind this tune, as well: Locked in a hotel room with a bottle of whiskey by the band’s manager, Wood was ordered to come up with a hit by morning. He obliged - this went to #5 in the U.K.
