So now we’re making laws for other countries?

I just don’t get this one. So Hillary’s big pitch these days is all about the nasty oil companies and oil-producing states - a natural pitch, obviously - but here we have her talking about how she’s going to break up OPEC:

“We’re going to go right at OPEC,” she said. “They can no longer be a cartel, a monopoly that get together once every couple of months in some conference room in some plush place in the world, they decide how much oil they’re going to produce and what price they’re going to put it at,” she told a crowd at a firehouse in Merrillville, IN.

Uh, not too sure whether Hillary’s up on this or not, but OPEC is comprised of foreign countries. And how, exactly, are we going to get them to knock it off?

That’s not a market. That’s a monopoly,” she said, saying she’d use anti-trust law and the World Trade Organization to take on OPEC.

Earth to Hillary: Laws like the Sherman Anti-Trust law only apply to America.

But wait! Did you know there’s legislation in Congress - to which Hillary hasn’t even signed on - which makes other nations subject to the laws of the United States?

The purpose of S. 879, the No Oil Producing and Exporting Cartels Act of 2007 (`NOPEC’ Act), is to subject to U.S. antitrust law foreign nations acting as cartels to raise the price of petroleum products in the United States through anticompetitive means.

So now our Congress is passing laws that pertain to other countries?

Boy, that’d go over real well if Iran passed a law and insisted the U.S. had to abide by it - don’t you think?

This is either the most ridiculous piece of election-year window dressing I’ve ever seen or the worst example of arrogant, clueless imperialism yet. Either stupid or mendacious; and I’m not sure which is worse.
